What is an Aurat Card and how do we get one?

What is an Aurat Card and how do we get one?

A simple explanation on one of the most talked about cards in the country.

Women of Pakistan, have you ever had an argument with someone and just when you're about to win, they say you're playing the 'Aurat Card'? What exactly is the Aurat Card and why does everyone say women play it all the time?

If you were to ask angry men, the Aurat Card, or Woman Card, is played in any situation when a woman seems to have gained the upper hand or is doing anything. Got a promotion at work after months of hard work? Must have played the Aurat Card. Weren't asked to pay a fine by a policeman even though you did nothing wrong? It's that darn Aurat Card again. Called out someone for harassment? Aurat Card, Aurat Card, Aurat Card.

We aren't sure about you, but we've never seen an Aurat Card before, or maybe we're not part of this exclusive club that gets to have one. But many angry netizens (mostly male) seem to know a lot about these cards. They throw the phrase around all the time. But perhaps they don't know what it means either.

If, like us, you don't know what an Aurat Card is, here is an easy explanation from a Twitter account aptly called the Aurat Card.

"Speaking about women's rights, challenging the negative stereotypes against women, being able to dream and achieve big, making your own life decisions — this is the Aurat Card.

"Giving women a voice — this is the Aurat Card. For a woman to talk about domestic affairs, politics, law, sports, or anything that a woman specialises or takes interest in — this is Aurat Card. Because our card, our choice."

Sounds about right.

On a more humorous note, I have enjoyed the dual meanings and insinuations. But I won't give high marks real creativity. And, are men in Pakistan worried? No! They will get worried only when saas-bahu get together!!

1. This is not taken seriously because the perpetrators do not make serious efforts. There is no seriousness and no efforts. 2. The West thought the Battle of the Sexes is a thing- its not. Inclusiveness and mutual respect is. Try it.

Of course women should be given their due place in society equal to men. However women should also learn to stand in the same queue as men, no separate compartments in trains and buses for women, no preferential treatment in jobs and promotions etc.

@A Bostonian , did you ever imagine why women, (Aurat) wear jewellery? There was a time in prehistoric times when men used to capture women by force and keep them in chains, like animals. Then, a tussle started in women of that prehistoric times, how to get rid of chains. That was a time of the "survival of the fittest". Women being weaker than men, had to find ways and means other than physical force, to get rid of chains. Ultimately they found the way, (which is another big discussion) and got rid of chains. Jewellery like bangles and necklace etc, are the reminders of those times. That was the foundation of the start of human civilisation.

Aurat card is getting advantage in any situation of being a women. Everything has advantages and disadvantages. Men who crib one that advantage is derived by women do not realize that they themselves have pole position in society already so they have a kind of permanent Mard Card. But to deny that there is no card at all is denying reality

This article or whatever shows only one side of the coin. Women do take advantage of their gender. That's a fact. From taking a seat in bus to cutting lines at banks, women always want better treatment just because they are women. You (the writer) could have mentioned that too.
