Nip/Tuck, Fantastic Four actor Julian McMahon dies at 56
Australian actor Julian McMahon, 56, known for his roles in Nip/Tuck, Charmed, the 2000s Fantastic Four movies and FBI: Most Wanted, passed away in Clearwater, Florida, after a private battle with cancer.
“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” his wife, Kelly McMahon, said in a statement to Deadline.
“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”
The actor was born in Sydney, Australia, on July 27, 1968, and his father Billy McMahon was the premier of Australia from 1971 to 1972. According to Deadline, Julian started his career as a model before becoming an actor with a lead role on the 1989 Australian show The Power, the Passion.
In 1992, he made his feature acting debut opposite Elliott Gould in the 1992 Australian-American movie Wet and Wild Summer! before moving to Hollywood and kicking off his American career. In 2003, Julian starred as the series lead alongside Dylan Walsh in Ryan Murphy’s plastic surgery drama Nip/Tuck, which ran for six seasons and earned the actor a Golden Globe nomination.
“I’m stunned,” Walsh told Deadline. “We rode this wave together and I loved him. My heart goes out to Kelly and Maddy. Jules! I know you’d want me to say something to make you smile — all the inside jokes. All those years you had my back, and my god, we laughed. My heart is with you. Rest in peace.”
His acting credits also include The Surfer (2024), which starred Nicholas Cage. “Such deeply saddening news. I spent six weeks working with Julian, and he was the most talented of actors,” Cage told Deadline. “Our scenes together on The Surfer were amongst my favourites I have ever participated in, and Julian is one of my favourite people. He was a kind and intelligent man. My love to his family.”
Julian’s final role was on Netflix’s murder mystery series The Residence, where he played the Australian prime minister.
The actor is survived by his wife Kelly and his daughter Madison “Maddy” McMahon.
