Memes, FOMO and the 'king': Twitter reacts to the PSL opening ceremony

Atif Aslam, Imran Khan, Aima Baig, Naseebo Lal performed at a pre-recorded ceremony in Turkey.

The PSL opening ceremony was aired on Saturday evening ahead of the first match at the National Stadium in Karachi. The songs were pre-recorded in Turkey and everyone watched the ceremony from their homes.

Much like the response to the PSL anthem, social media was divided over the ceremony itself. Some people loved it while others didn't.

Some people said it seemed more like a concert than the opening ceremony for the PSL.

But others were upset that the singers were lip-synching.

It was also a pretty short ceremony, with some of the singers performing medleys rather than full length songs.

Some people weren't fans of the graphics used for the ceremony and to be honest, neither were we.

Atif Aslam

As always, Pakistan's 'King of Pop' did a great job. People loved his performance.

In fact, some said he united fans who support different teams.

Imran Khan and Humaima Malick

When Imran Khan came out people were pumped. A lot of people had serious FOMO because they missed the chance to hear 'Bewafa' live.

Some people didn't know he was Pakistani while others thought he was Akshay Kumar.

Others got a serpentine vibe from him.

Groove Mera crew

The singers of the PSL anthem 'Groove Mera,' Aima Baig, Naseebo Lal and Young Stunners also performed.

But Young Stunners weren't actually at the venue with Lal and Baig and a lot of people missed them.

What we're most disappointed with (aside from the graphics) is that the 'Groove Mera' crew didn't wear their outfits from the PSL anthem music video. Where was Naseebo Lal's fabulous sequinned sari or Young Stunners amazing colourful suits?

What did you think of the PSL opening ceremony? Did it live up to the hype?
