Humaira Asghar Ali laid to rest in Lahore

Humaira Asghar Ali was laid to rest in the Model Town Q Block graveyard in Lahore on Friday after a sparsely-attended funeral, days after her body was discovered at her apartment in Karachi.

The late actor’s remains were found in her rented apartment on Tuesday in DHA’s Ittehad Commercial by a police team executing a court-ordered eviction notice. The police believe she died eight to 10 months prior to the discovery of her body.

The autopsy report has been released to the police but the coroner could not determine the actor’s cause of death due to the level of decomposition. The authorities are awaiting the chemical examination and histopathological but have so far said they do not believe foul play was involved.

Initially, the police said that they had contacted Ali’s family who had refused to take her body for burial. This caused an uproar on social media with several people and government institutions coming forward to offer to arrange the burial, including celebrities such as Yashma Gill and Sonya Hussyn as well as the Sindh culture department and Sindh governor. On Thursday, Ali’s brother, Naveed Asghar, arrived in Karachi and took custody of her body, indicating his wishes to take it back to Lahore for burial.

He denied reports that the family had refused to claim her body and said, “The body was in police custody. The police had kept the body for investigation before calling us (the family) to claim it.”

He said that for the last three days, the family was in contact with Chhipa and the police, including Station House Officer Farooq Ahmed Sanjrani of the Gizri Police.

“According to the guidelines, we were [eventually] going to receive the body and perform the rites,” he told journalists.

As they await the histopathological and chemical examination reports, the police have said that if any foul play is involved, they will register an FIR and initiate legal proceedings.

This is why it is said, "careful what you wish for." Her dream of fame and fortune in showbiz, turned into a nightmare of loneliness at such a young age.

Dead for 10 months means she had no real friends at all. Not. Single person bothered to see where she is. A pathetic state of society now a days.

With her return to her city of Lahore and finally her peaceful burial after so many controversies pertaining to her death, Humaira Asghar has taken with her the questions of hardships she must have endured when she was alive in that apartment. RIP......Adieu.

the smile and glory on the surface do not mean a person is equally content inside, especially when they are alone surrounded by the silent walls of their houses (not homes). It kills, metaphorically or literally

May the deceased rest in peace. It is very disrespectful of people responsible for leaking the videos of the decomposed body. Whoever was involved in accessing the body (Police, Chippa volunteers, etc.) and releasing the video should be reprimanded. This act is highly unethical if not criminal.

The reports of the family refusing to take the body with specific emphasis on the father came from DIG South Syed Asad Raza. Of course, now the brother wil now deny after public outrage. Its all about image control, saving face and the honor we hear so much about. Her family did abandon her and she was dead for 10 months. Her death and her life indicates foul play, the details emerging in the past 24 hours on news outlets like Samaa, Express News etc. Sadly it will be covered up as usual. Nobody will be held accountable. I hope she is at peace. Also shame on people for circulating a video with the discovery of her body by the police. This is not ok and those uploading this video should be held accountable under the law.

Thankful for the proper funeral of the unfortunate soul ! This is a tragic end of a young person on the usual look out for "how to get rich quick", without due counseling! But, can we learn any lesson? I am sure there are a lot more of such persons living alone in similar situations.

Iqrar Ul Hassan has made some great investigative videos on this case raising important questions. Similarily Mubashar Lucman has also made video questioning this case. Things are not adding up. There ware two many questions, two many convenient "coincidences". Her family is covering things up as they want to scrutiny and outrage of their family affairs to go away. But there was a feud between the victims and her brother's/father who refused to give her due inheritance. The landlord also was feuding with her making her seek help from the courts and block his number. Unfortunately as usual the truth will be covered up and buried with the victim. That's how it always is. This was no natural death, no suicide and yes somebody else was involved. This was not just about depression, money issues or loneliness. Somebody out there knows the truth.

@Laila why do you keep referencing Iqrar ul hassan and mubasher lucman as if they are beacons of journalism? Given that people are sensationalising this woman's death right now, don't you think theorising about the manner of her death is insensitive? the investigation isn't even complete yet.

@A Reader I only referenced them twice. I never said that both are "beacons of journalism". It worth noting that such cases are covered up and nobody is held accountable as we seen repeatedly before. So much for investigations. No, I do not think, "theorising" or raising questions about the misinformation and contradictions on statements to shed light over a woman's untimely death is insensitive. I do however think it is wrong and unethical to stand passive during cover ups and blindly believe a mainstream media which is not free, uncensored and mostly not impartial. So different perspectives are important. It should be in all of our interests to want to know what happened. Uncovering the truth is not sensationalising. Syed Muzzammil Shah also has a thought provoking video about the systemic social issues in this case.
