Bella Hadid says she is proud to be Muslim

The model spoke out against Trump's Muslim travel ban in her latest interview

In her latest interview, model Bella Hadid has opened up about her Muslim faith and why she feels so strongly about American President Donald Trump's Muslim travel ban.

Bella and her sister Gigi were both spotted in New York marching in protest against Trump’s Muslim travel ban in February, and she says she felt compelled to participate because the ban felt quite personal.

The Hadid models' father Mohamed Hadid is a real-estate mogul in America now, but he was born in Palestine and came to the US as a refugee when he was 14.

“My dad was a refugee when he first came to America, so it’s actually very close to home for my sister and brother and me,” said Bella to Porter Magazine. “He was always religious, and he always prayed with us. I am proud to be a Muslim.”

Speaking to Elle earlier in February, she said, “We shouldn’t treat people as if they don’t deserve kindness just because of their ethnicities. It’s just not right. And that message — to be compassionate whenever possible — that’s so important to me.”

There is nothing to be proud or ashamed of being born into a family of any faith. What one needs to be proud of is one's own performance in improving the condition of humanity in any way, big or small.

@r sultan Very well said. KarmaYog only way.

@R Sultan. Absolutely right. You can't be proud of being born in a faith or can't be proud of your nationality either. You didn't achieve it, it was through nature's selection, which had nothing to do with you. This false pride is the problem that we end up hating others.

@r sultan Great words.

For sure Bella! Your father is a wise man who taught his children about a faith who's followers created beauty and scientific advances when Europe was in the Dark Ages. We as Muslims need to own and cherish our faith, as you are doing so beautifully, so thank you Bella - stay blessed! BTW, I believe your mother is also an immigrant to the USA from Holland ...

All muslim women should take a leaf out of Bellas dressing sense... They should be independent on what to wear rather than being subjugated to disguise themselves behind a veil.

Without her dad, she would be just another muslim. What did she achieve on her own?
Syed Husain Apr 05, 2017 04:37am
In my opinion, first and fore most, one has to be a good human being. Once that is achieved, then it is irrelevant what faith that person follows.

What's great about being a person of a particular faith. Be a good human.

@Ahmer -- The phrase "I am proud to be a Muslim" does not mean what you think it means, it has nothing to do with pride or vanity or hating others.
