Photographer, model booked for video at Wazir Khan mosque in Lahore

They are accused of recording the video in an ‘unreasonable’ dress, without permission from the relevant authority.

The Akbari Gate police have registered a case against a female model and a photographer for recording a video on the premises of the Masjid Wazir Khan, Lahore.

The FIR was registered on the complaint of Mohammad Awais, an official of the Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA), on the charges of violating the sanctity of the mosque against model Azbia Khan and photographer Zain Shah. The police acted when a video clip was uploaded on social media.

The WCLA official alleged that the model had recorded the video in an ‘unreasonable’ dress and without getting permission from the relevant authority.

He said the video clip was recorded around four days ago and later uploaded on social media. It had also damaged the reputation of the department besides violating the sanctity of the mosque, he added.

Earlier, a similar case came to the limelight in August 2020 when police registered a case against a group, including actor Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed, for allegedly ‘violating the sanctity’ of the Wazir Khan Mosque by shooting a music video there.

A few days later, the Punjab Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department banned the shootings of films and dramas in mosques and shrines following the controversial video clip of Qamar and others went viral on social media.

There should simply be a full blanket ban on any and all kind of shooting , filming , photography etc inside mosques and shrines throughout Pakistan.

if we need evidence of why pakistan doesnt get as many tourists as other countries, here it is. In which other country would someone be told they had to wear particular dress or need permission to take a photo? We need to drag this country kicking & screaming into the 21st centrury.

I think mosques should be exempted from photography. Whether professional or personal photos. No cameras should be allowed. Let people be spiritual in peace. Images, you forgot to post a photo of the dress in question.

@Akram Don't worry. Pakistan will never become a place for tourism. Mainly it's not safe, clean and infrastructure leaves much to be desired for (unless you are in Islamabad). Imran Khan tried to attract tourism probably high on Turkey following his obsession with Ertuğrul. It's not even safe for us locals, let alone for foreigners, especially females. Photography is the least of our concerns. Stability and safety are nowhere in sight. We will remain a regressive nation at odds with vision of Pakistans founder, Jinnah.

what happened to the case of Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed. If they got off by bribing the police, courts, then why to bother now. Had those been punished according to the tenets of Law, this new incident would have been avoided.

@Muneer Ahmed Menon I agree. But then what do we do about the rampant sex abuse of innocent boys/male children taking place at Pakistani mosques and madrassas by so-called religious clerics? I can not imagine anything more repugnant, blasphemous or obscene than that. But no protest, outrage, or anger about that. This is happening everyday. Just not on camera.
