Musical maestro A.R.Rahman is branching out into cinema with his first film production, but he won't be venturing too far from musical territory in this new project.

Titled 99 Songs, the Tamil-Hindi film will be a musical that tells the story of a singer through a soundtrack of 10 songs.

Rahman, who has also written the film, describes it as ”a sensual story about art and self-discovery”.

The Oscar-winning composer/singer had also planned to direct the film, but handed over the reins to The Dewarists director Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy due to time constraints.

Rahman shared the official poster of the film on Facebook yesterday with the message 'With your support & good wishes, I'm pleased to share my movie's first poster!'

Rahman has already readied five tracks of the film's album and hopes to release the film next year.

I think it should be 'Tamil-Hindi film' not 'Tamil-Hindu film'

Never looked back from Slum Dog Millionaire. Cannot understand why he hasn't been extended an invitation to perform in Pakistan.
