Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation's new animal shelter is now up and running

Currently, they have over 240 animals at the shelter

Ask any animal lover in Karachi if they've heard of Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation and you'll hear nothing but good things about all the non-profit does for animal welfare.

The organisation rescues abandoned and/or abused stray animals and provides them with food, shelter, free medical treatment and rehabilitation.

The foundation has now opened the doors to its new and improved animal shelter in the city after moving base four times in the last three and a half years. The shelter currently houses over 240 animals, ranging from cats and dogs to donkeys.

We spotted lots and lots of dogs and cats at the inauguration

Speaking to Images, Ayesha shares, "All the money for the new place has come from donors. We've tried really hard to make it like a sanctuary for the animals because we've gotten so many of them who have been abused and have to come to us in extremely dismal states."

The organization has moved base 4 times in the last 3.5 years and has finally found a permanent home now

The new place is located in Malir Cantt, which Ayesha believes is the ideal location.

"Legally, this was the best place for us to set up. With so many dogs and other animals in one vicinity, there are noise issues within the inner city."

The foundation also rehabilitates donkeys

When asked if the location poses an inconvenience for prospective pet adopters, Ayesha explains: "It's a nice smooth drive and I feel people who really want to give these animals a home will make the effort."

"We have a very strict screening adoption process due to the fact that we've seen how some of these animals have been treated in the past; many have been abandoned, abused by their previous owners. So we feel it's a good sign if people who might give them a new home are taking out the time to come to the shelter," she adds.

@U Z Kazi A Human can ask for food because he can speak, an animal can't. A Human is intelligent enough to ask for help, a stray animal can't. Lets encourage those who are doing!

@Ali Please don't be a source of obstruction. i think what ms chundrigar is doing it certainly is a very noble cause. i see here in Canada Humane Society. just that there are so many people without food doesn't mean you turn a blind eye to the crimes committed against animals. you will find many people trying to help the hungary and needy people in so many ways but do you see any organization that comes for the animal rescue. I strongly recommend that ms chundrigar should also consider taking out time to see the plight of the animals in karachi zoo.

@Ali It is entirely the case that human beings are suffering terrible hardships in every part of the world, including the wealthiest. Yet it is for humanity's sake animals should be treated with care, simply because ,I believe when we treat animals well we are more likely to treat humans well too.

A great initiative! It is reassuring to know that all decent and kind things that human beings do have not been lost to the ravages of time. Many years back, Lady Constantine had a similar program going in Karachi. Hats off! to the young people who have picked up the torch.

The best way to be nice to animals and mother nature is to put a stop to human population explosion. Once we do it, we have realistic chance of conserving and rehabilitating wild animals and plants !!!

Please include goats as well, they are extremely adorable. I will be happy to create (free, of course) a webpage for your organization, and put each mammal's pic up, with a name, and someone can adopt them by browsing through the site. Also, hope you have a voluntary vet arranged for treatments.

Lets face it animals were badly treated and abused and the people and authorities were always looking the other way AC Foundation is trying to change that animals need to be treated with respect then places like this will not need to exist. Also all need to help in the neutering program to decrease the population of animals wont you help donate at your will to this cause?

@Abs uk Please come back to Pakistan and see the reality how humans are treated, really badly. Even they cant speak and share their thoughts what they are facing instead of focusing on ANIMALS. Its a good thing, we all must appreciate the work started by these girls but we should first start giving the respect, care and love to human beings in Pakistan. Do you think we treat 'on good terms' with Hindus and Christians and really poor people here in our country. There should be a space for humans we well, a separate room for them!!!
