Deepika Padukone visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to stand in solidarity with the students after a group of masked vandals attacked the campus on Sunday, leaving many injured.

A few Bollywood celebrities, including Sonam Kapoor and Mahesh Bhatt, had previously condemned the violent attack. Padukone, who was in the capital to promote her film Chhapaak, headed down to the protest against the attack herself which was happening outside the university's campus, where she also met President of the Jawaharlal Nehru Students Association Aishe Ghosh.

The move received a mixed response on social media, where folks either called her brave for taking such a stance, or called for a boycott of her film.

Her fraternity, the one that has been comparatively vocal about the recent political climate at least, made sure to commend her for what she did:

Bollywood actors are mean. They do everything for publicity of thier films. Its not new to create sensation before release of thier movie.

@Dr Vikas Jamwal - How is it a PR stunt? She knew very well that going to JNU would unleash an army of right wing trolls. If anything she should be commended for her bravery.
