Going loco for local: Nibl’s chocolate granola makes for a decadent snack
At this point, I feel like I’ve tried (almost) all the granola available in Karachi. What makes me such an expert on it, you may ask? Nothing at all other than I like to eat it. My latest discovery — Nibl’s Chocolate, Fruit & Nut Granola.
Our friends at Nibl sent us some of their chocolate granola and their peanut butter and jelly granola, and since I’ve never really been a fan of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, I decided to try the chocolate one first.
My first impression — this is very chocolatey, far more chocolatey than other granolas I’ve had. Depending on your level of sweet tooth, this could either be very good news or very not so good news.
For the record, I don’t eat granola because it’s healthy — I eat it because I like the way it tastes — so for me, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I do think, however, that the chocolate is a bit overpowering and this tastes more like granola flavoured chocolate than it does chocolate flavoured granola. But again, this is a matter of preference. This chocolate is on the darker side, but I wouldn’t categorise it as dark chocolate.
Going through the ingredient list helps you understand why this is — there are no oats or other types of cereal grains in this granola, making it softer than usual. It has almonds, pumpkin seeds, chocolate, raisins and other ingredients, which make it seem more like a healthy dessert than anything else.
One thing I think would take this to the next level of healthy desserts is the addition of some dried berries. But then again, you could easily add fresh berries or other fruit to your granola and yoghurt pairing and make this into a truly decadent snack.
Nibl says its granola is made with all natural nut butter, and I believe it. It has that grainy sort of texture unique to nut butter that I think many people will quite enjoy.
The granola is priced at Rs800 for a bag and is available on the Nibl website. A few years ago, I would have said Rs800 is way too expensive for a 200g bag, but with the way people are pricing things today, I suppose this is fine. The granola is very rich, so you likely won’t be consuming a lot in one sitting.
I’m rating it 3.5 rounded down to three because I would have preferred some grains in this granola.
