Arooj Aftab to become the first Pakistani artist to perform at Coachella
Singer Arooj Aftab made quite a name for herself by bagging Pakistan's first Best New Artist nomination at the Grammys. Adding another feather to her cap, the 'Mohabbat' singer is also going to be the first Pakistani artist to be performing at American art and music festival Coachella.
The news comes soon after her revelation that she will be making her first Coke Studio appearance this season.
Aftab shared a list of artists who will be performing on the first day of the festival on two weekends — April 15 and 22 — including Harry Styles, Lil baby, Daniel Caesar, Phoebe Bridgers, Big Sean, Grupo Firme, Louis the Child, Baby Keem, Snoh Aalegra, City Girls, Madeon, NIKI, Peggy Gou, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Martinez Borthers and Bishop Briggs among many others.
The second day features Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, Disclosure, 21 Savage, Stromae and many other artists, including Palestinian DJ Sama' Abdulhadi who will also perform the second week on April 23.
For the third day, Ye will take charge of the show followed by Doja Cat, Joji, Karol G, Ari Lennox, Maneskin, FINNEAS, Ali Gatie, Hayden James and other artists. The third set of artists will also perform for another weekend on April 24.
Pakistani celebrities have been cheering on her latest achievement and so are we. It's amazing to see the representation and have a Pakistani artist perform at one of the most popular music festivals in the world.
Aftab got the nod from singers Faisal Kapadia and Meesha Shafi, models Zara Peerzada and Tooba Siddiqui and actor Mahira Khan. Indian director Ankur Tewari, known for his films Gully Boy and Guilty, also commented under the post and wrote "Go show them."
The music festival has returned after a three-year hiatus due to Covid-19 and we're glad to see one of our very own artists take the stage.
