Publicity is publicity, says Rishi Kapoor about his social media controversies
When you think of a controversial tweet from an Indian filmstar, senior actor Rishi Kapoor is one of the first Twitter trolls that come to mind... And that's exactly how the Kapoor & Sons actor wants it to be!
In a recent press meet-up for the promotion of his upcoming film Patel Ki Punjabi Wedding, Rishi Kapoor was asked about his latest Twitter shenanigans. To this, the veteran actor replied he is just "supply[ing] content" to the media so it has something to talk about.
At first, senior Kapoor blamed the media for blowing up everything he says or does on Twitter and turning it into something it wasn't.
He said, "Today, the media is like this, social media especially, you all have to write something, you have to feed [people information]."
"I see all the time there are so many things written about me ─ all garbage ─ and I understand that you also have to supply content."
The 65-year-old actor says he takes it all with "a pinch of salt".
"I have said this to myself also that they (the media) will write what they want to write, so good or bad, publicity is publicity," he added. At the end of the day, "you are in the news, period," the senior artist added.
"And all actors have to understand that! That’s part of our life."
Kapoor's Twitter activities started gaining media's attention around the ICC Champions Trophy where he was super vocal about his support to the Indian team. As it turned out, his overly competitive jibe was of no match when the tables got turned and Pakistan won the tournament.
Amitabh Bachchan may have been the angry young man of Bollywood but Mr Chintu is definitely becoming the grumpy old man of Twitter.
