Spotify to add 'AI Persona' badges to AI-generated artist profiles

The streaming service said listeners had 'expressed concerns' about human-looking profiles.

Spotify said on Tuesday it would begin adding “AI Persona” badges to some profiles from mid-September to give listeners more transparency about whether the artist behind the music was a real person.

Listeners have expressed concerns about artist profiles that appear human but instead represent AI-generated personas, the media streaming platform said.

Spotify will display the ⁠badge on banners and About sections in artist profiles, as well as in Search and on track rows across playlists.

Starting Tuesday, artists can disclose that their profile represents an AI Persona through Spotify for Artists. Spotify will also review profiles whose public identity appears to represent photorealistic AI-generated imagery.

Artists whose profiles are flagged by Spotify’s review team will be notified and given an opportunity ⁠to self-disclose or appeal, it said.

Spotify said it will exclude ‌AI ⁠Personas from editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default unless users follow those artists. Listeners will also be able to see whether an artist transparently shared that they were ⁠an AI Persona or whether Spotify identified the profile through its own review.

Spotify added that the ⁠badge will be based on an artist’s public identity and not how the music was made.

The recent evolution of artificial intelligence is not new. AI has been known and around since Sputnik days and been involved in more things around the home and workplace than people care to remember. Things like air conditioners, dishwashers, fridges, toasters and even microwave ovens and heaters are all infant AI design concepts and tools. Thus, who does one regulate in the laws of AI? The answer is AI cannot be regulated. Nor can it be monitored nor supervised. IF AI is truly AI, then AI lives and breathes on its own. AI also breeds, creates, develops and grows on its own without human contact. The great scene of the AI creature in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 'Terminator' sees the terminator after injury in a scene, repairing himself with his own built-in repair kit. This is true for only the true AI. The AI concepts and platforms MUST have built-in repair and maintenance programs. I urge all governments to allow AI companies to develop AI without government interferences, distractions, regulations, fines and penalties, and when the finish product is finalized and complete then the AI companies can come to the people and show us. No one goes to a world car show to see a windscreen wiper or four sets of tyres sitting alone on the ground, with the car company saying the doors and engine will be done next week, so to AI companies MUST be fully independent of government and left alone to develop AI.
