‘Pssst’, the mysterious black cat at National Stadium, Karachi is cricket’s newest superstar

The cat's consistent appearance in the Champion's Trophy has sparked theories about its role in the outcome of the games.

It’s official, folks — Karachi’s National Stadium has an in-house star. Forget the players or the actual celebrities showing up because a black cat is effortlessly stealing the spotlight.

Yes, the feline phenomenon has become the talk of the town during the ICC Champion’s Trophy, and it’s sparking purr-fectly hilarious commentary from fans everywhere. We also have an ongoing poll dedicated to naming this pitch-black kitty. Feel free to cast your vote here.

The cat made its cricket debut during the tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand, quickly winning hearts and capturing the attention of viewers. But there’s something even more curious about this cat’s growing fame — its uncanny timing.

It seems to appear at key moments when batting teams are, well, not doing so well. Coincidence? You decide.

Social media is buzzing with hilarious theories about its role in the outcome of matches. The mystery of its ‘curse’ on batting sides is enough to make you wonder: is this cat the unspoken MVP of the tournament?

The most popular theory comes from the cat’s appearance during the Afghanistan vs South Africa match that took place yesterday. One fan jokingly tweeted: “Whenever this black cat appears during a team’s batting, they lose. (Sample size: 1) Afghanistan are 4 down on 50 now.”

South Africa won the match by 107 runs.

As the cat kept making appearances, some cheeky commentary took over X, with one user even quipping: “Black Cat contributed more in Karachi Stadium than Babar Azam.” Ouch. But it’s all in good fun!

Here’s what others had to say:

It’s all cats in the Champion’s Trophy

Black caps, black kits and black cat…

Conspiracies, conspiracies

Just coincidence!

In all seriousness, let’s remember that black cats have been unfairly linked to bad luck for centuries, but in reality, they are as innocent as any other animal, doing their thing.

Whether it’s a batting collapse or a miraculous comeback, the outcome of the match is still determined by the performance of the players, not the presence of our furry friend. So, here’s to the black cat of Karachi — long may it continue to steal the show.

Every time it appears at the National Stadium in Karachi, Islamic Republic of Pakistan during the match, it definitely provides reprieve, rest and relief to the on-the field players and others, for some time.

It’s simply a hungry cat and looking for food and nothing to worry what’s going on here.

Just be happy the cat wasn't accused of being a foreign funded Israeli undercover agent with western liberal left wing agenda lol I voted 'Karachi King' but do we know for sure the kitty is a male? It could be female. That cat is a cutie pie! Hope people treat it kindly and give it food. Cats are very intelligent but very misunderstood in Pakistan.

Hello there. I just saw the article on Google Chrome and while I was reading it, I came across the poll and voted Vigo on it. I think it's an article that's both extremely cute and intriguing and very beautiful thing about sports and animals combined.

Results depend upon a team's performance....not the appearance of an animal on the field.

The superstition about "black cats are bad luck" is a uniquely a USA thing (and I'm saying this despite being located in the USA and despite being someone born here, I am definitely being critical of attitudes in my own country). Nearly every other country and/or culture worldwide seems to have GOOD LUCK superstitions about black cats (or at least ones where the black cat could POTENTIALLY "cause" good luck, such as how I've heard that in Norway "bringing a black cat aboard a ship encourages a safe voyage" or how in Italy it is often considered good luck to hear one sneeze. Japan especially considers black cats to be good luck). If anything, this kitty is apparently GOOD LUCK for whichever team is currently playing DEFENSE or FIELDING (i.e. the team NOT batting, I'm not totally sure of the exact terminology in the sport of cricket) whenever he or she appears.

I have had several black kitties and they are as normal as any other cat. Often shy because some people pick on them. I pray someone protects and keeps the cat safe. It is a beautiful cat. Maybe she has kittens.

Cats rule. I love black cats and that black cat is adorable. Good names for the black cat might be Onyx or Ebony. King Karachi sounds nice as well...one of the names already suggested.
