Twitter still can’t get over Babar Azam’s century against New Zealand and neither can we
Captain Babar Azam scored his third T20i century on Saturday during a five-match series against New Zealand at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, making him the player with second-highest number of T20i hundreds.
The next match against New Zealand will take place tonight yet all everyone can talk about is Babar’s performance two days back. Clearly, fans still aren’t over the feat.
Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma currently tops the list with four centuries. Babar now has a total of three under his belt, bringing him one step closer to the record.
He is also the only Pakistani batter with more than one century in the format. During the intense match, the skipper scored a half-century off merely 36 balls and then made 51 runs in the next 22 deliveries.
His astonishing batting attack took cricket Twitter by storm. The skipper is still trending on Twitter, with fans praising his performance two nights ago.
Fans can’t help but make edits of the moment when he crossed 100 runs, putting pop music over his iconic celebration.
We must say, Babar truly is unstoppable once he’s in his element.
One user even compiled all the deliveries into one video to show his century “ball by ball”.
The Babar craze is not only limited to the online realm. A user shared a video of the crowd at the Gaddafi Stadium, cheering for the batter after he completed his hundred.
Babar also appeared to have taken selfies with fans at the stadium.
It’s safe to say his fans have been sleeping well ever since.
Fans are also cheering that his performance “beat the strike rate and captaincy allegations”.
Babar has been met with criticism for allegedly prioritising increasing his own strike rate over trying to score more runs for the Pakistani team during matches.
After the match, the man himself addressed the so called ‘strike rate brigade’ in an interview when asked whether his fiery celebration was in response to such criticism.
“We can say that!” Babar responded, laughing. Well, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that his performance has managed to shut up his critics and haters for the time being.
