Spider-Man's Tom Holland wanted to be the next James Bond
You may have seen actor Tom Holland as a web-shooting superhero in Marvel's Spider-Man and Avengers series but what you may not know is that the webbed superhero is a Bond fan, so much so that he wants to play the suave secret agent.
In February 2021, Holland had told Variety that he looks "good in a suit" and "as a young British lad who loves cinema" would love to be James Bond.
One could argue that it's a British thing to be obsessed with the whole James Bond franchise but for Holland it's serious business. Turns out the 25-year-old British actor actually pitched a Bond film, though it didn't work out.
"I had a meeting, after or during Spider-Man: Far From Home with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond film that I'd come up with. It was the origin story of James Bond. It didn't really make sense. It didn't work. It was the dream of a young kid, and I don't think the Bond estate were particularly interested," Holland told Total Film.
His Bond dreams might have dashed, but Holland is still a movie star and will be seen in Uncharted — an adventure and action film based on a video game series — as a treasure hunter named Nathan Drake.
"The idea of a young Bond film sparked this idea, in turn, that you could do a Nathan Drake story as an origin story, rather than as an addition to the games. And that opened a conversation," he said.
Though Holland might still be yearning to step into the shoes of 007, he has many films in the pipeline to keep him busy — Uncharted, American Broadway star Fred Astaire's upcoming biopic and the Spider-Man series.
