Vasay Chaudhry calls out Yasir Hussain for criticising films like Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, Punjab Nahi Jaungi
Actor and producer Vasay Chaudhry is not on the same page as actor Yasir Hussain when it comes to movies like Jawani Phir Nahi Ani or Punjab Nahi Jaungi, two box-office hits that don't seem to sit well with Hussain.
In a conversation with The Express Tribune to promote his upcoming biopic on Javed Iqbal, Hussain had questioned the "message" that films like Jawani Phir Nahi Ani and Punjab Nahi Jaungi gave. "Someone asked me what would be the message of this film [on Javed Iqbal]? he said. "What's the purpose of it? I want to know what kind of message do Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, Punjab Nahi Jaungi or such films really give out?"
Chaudhry didn't exactly agree with Hussain's negative assertions about these films. He shared a message on his Instagram Story, highlighting the value of the films Hussain seemed to be criticising. "Besides providing quality family entertainment, these films played a vital role in the growth and resurfacing of the Pakistani box office so that films like Lahore Sey Aagey could also run in cinemas," he said. Shots fired.
Hussain later took to his own Instagram Story to clarify his meaning behind the post. He said that he meant to say that all movies are for entertainment. "Parents and books give messages too, so leave movies alone," he said.
Lahore Sey Aagey was a film released in 2016, directed by Hussain alongside Wajahat Rauf. It starred Saba Qamar as well as Hussain himself. The films in question, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani — released in 2015 — and Punjab Nahi Jaungi —released in 2017 — were romantic comedies that were received quite well upon their release in local cinemas.
