If you follow Shehzad Roy, you know that his activism speaks volumes about the importance he places on protecting children in the country.

Recently, he took to social media to share how whenever he spoke to Prime Minister Imran Khan about child protection, he received a positive response.

“Thank you Imran Khan for personally pursuing this case," he wrote on social media alongside a picture of jailed cleric Mufti Azizur Rehman.

"Whenever I have discussed child protection issues with the PM, he has shown a keen interest and soon he will be making a holistic policy and initiate a mass public awareness campaign to address the issue," he added.

His statement comes days after a student was sexually assaulted by a teacher at a madressah in Lahore. A case against Mufti Azizur Rehman was registered after a video of the assault was shared on social media. He has since been arrested.

The victim said he complained to the madressah administration but they refused to believe him as Rehman was an "elder and a pious man" and instead accused him of giving a false statement.

Following this, many celebrities spoke about children being abused by men purportedly teaching them about religion.

Roy is no stranger to fighting for the rights of children. The 'Laga Reh' singer spoke to Images previously about strongly he felt about protecting children against all sorts of abuse, be it sexual or domestic.

According to him, when physical punishments are inflicted upon children, society is telling them that violence is a valid means of resolving a problem.

"When a child is born, he is beaten up by his parents. When he goes to school or madressah to receive education, he is beaten up by the teachers and then eventually mercilessly by the police. He witnesses that if anything needs to be fixed, violence is considered the only solution, the only way. This is why I cannot stress on this enough — protect your children. Teach them, don’t severely punish them," he had said.

No to Moulvees. Muslims: please do no subcontract your religion to them. As you do not subcontract other important aspects of your life to strangers.

Thank you Dawn for displaying the photo of the accused in his maulvi garb. What a brazen look on his face. Hoping for a speedy and just trial, and if convicted, a very long and arduous jail term.

There in no need to pat the PM on the back, these perverts should be locked up as per the Law.

Indeed commendable initiative from Shahzad Roy. Child abuse is most rampant crime in Pakistan never addressed at any level, not even the elite and powerful give importance to it. I request Shahzad Roy to make a formal online web portal where the victims or their relatives can join and form a social group , share their personal experiences and expose the criminals. Self protection awareness programs must be strictly implemented at government level , it should be certified by NADRA and each child and his/her parent must get certificate just like the vaccination drive being held across the country..

honestly if this mufti was not a JUI member, I do not see IK or government pursuing zealously. These cases are still happening. Also heard that instead of catching the clergy involved in such activities, the madarssahs have banned mobile phones/recording devices
