Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli raise funds for India's fight against Covid-19
The latest celebrities to extend a helping hand in India's fight against Covid-19 are power couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, who recently launched a fund to donate to organisations working towards providing aid to those in need.
The cricketer posted the news on his Instagram account.
"Since the Covid-19 outbreak, our country is going through trying times, our health systems are being challenged, we need to come together and help our India," he wrote, adding that he and his wife were stepping up to play their part.
"Anushka and I have started a campaign on Ketto, to raise funds for Covid-19 relief, and we would be grateful for your support. No amount is too small to save lives. We will do everything we can to make a difference, but we need your help to fight this," he added.
"I urge you all to join our movement. Let’s do our part to keep our country safe and strong. Thank you."
Sharing a similar post from her account, Sharma grieved over the overburdened healthcare system in India. Currently undergoing a crisis, she said it was heartbreaking "to see our people suffering."
Earlier this week, she thanked fans for the birthday wishes they sent her way, adding how she was grateful for the love but did not have the heart to celebrate amidst the crisis. It was then that she announced that the couple would be launching a fund soon, and asked people to come forth to help as much they could.
However, Virushka aren't the only duo to donate to India in times of crisis. Previously, Akshay Kumar announced that he was donating INR 10 million to the Gautam Gambhir Foundation, while his wife Twinkle Khanna managed to arrange 100 oxygen concentrators to be brought directly into the country through the United Kingdom.
Main Hoon Na star Sushmita Sen also arranged oxygen cylinders, asking for help transporting them to areas that needed urgent aid.
