Karachiites on Twitter call out govt, discard 'resilience' label

Karachiites are no longer interested in sticking to the "resilient" label, saying enough is enough.
Updated 29 Aug, 2020

With at least 19 deaths in rain-related incidents in Karachi and the city still reeling from the torrential downpour of Thursday, Karachiites are increasingly calling out authorities and are demanding to see definitive action to fix the city's myriad problems.

What's more, Karachiites are no longer interested in sticking to the "resilient" label, saying enough is enough. And yes, they're not wrong there.

No more gaslighting

Karachiites are done

Resilience should not equal continuous, quiet suffering

Incompetence. Lost opportunity to collect and store millions of gallons of rainwater in underground water storage caverns. This is done in major cities worldwide.

Karachi should be a separate province. Away from the stranglehold of ethnic and provincial politics. If that does not work ....

What really annoys me is that the dams are overflowing and the streets are flooded but still I need to pay Rs. 5,200 for a water tanker as there hasn’t been a drop of water in the line for over a year. Not a drop! Why is the tanker mafia allowed to flourish even in these times?!?

My basement which I use as a workshop where I restore furniture is flooded to the roof and I can’t even pump out the water as the water in the street is higher than my entrance. Why is there no accountability ever? Why is there so much corruption in Pakistan and it’s ok? Why?

No linguistics prejudices please. Karachi is a mini- Pakistan, it is not Mini- Sindh, let the Federal Govt take care of Sindh in general, and Karachi in particular. The President must enact an Ordinance and impose Governor rule immediately.

@Bhaijan Mr. Bhaijan, Karachi is neither Mini-Pakistan nor Mini-Sindh. Karachi is Karachi which feeds whole Pakistan and gets injustice and discrimination.

Yeah we all express our public grief and shared pain, but ask yourselves, what am I doing to make things better. Public officials haven’t changed in 70 years. Why this sudden consternation at them.? Did we imagine this could happen? That it would be this bad? After all NDMA & PDMA warned us via sms. Did we take it seriously? So there’s that. Hindsight is 20/20 & it’s the usual whining blame game. Suggest practical steps people, roll up your sleeves & get involved with being the solution. Otherwise after this venting, as our feathers dry off, and the bad taste in our mouth recedes, we will shrug it off till the next monsoon ... or earlier ...

with all due respect to Karachiites. We are treated the way we want to be treated. We don't speak out for the true rights without getting political. We will be ruled and eaten by these politicians again and again. Hope this time we all don't get busy in our lives n businesses as usual soon as the water recedes. Other very important thing is, urbanization needs to be stopped in Karachi until there is a mechanism and of course and better life opportunities in rural areas . This urbanization is over loading Karachi including crimes and land grabbing. "YEH TOH CHAP DENA BHAI"
