Yasir Hussain questions Esra Bilgic as brand ambassador for Q mobile

"Don't you think a Pakistani brand should have a Pakistani ambassador?" he asks.
Updated 14 Jul, 2020

Esra Bilgic had revealed to Images that she was going to be working with some Pakistani brands.

At the time of the interview there were three brands in line - but we have a feeling we'll be seeing more of her - and one brand has revealed the news.

A photo posted by Instagram (@instagram) on

Pakistan's Q Mobile broke the news that Bilgic is their next brand ambassador. And while Ertugrul and Halime Sultan fans rejoiced (can you blame them?), there were those who had some concerns.

Yasir Hussain has previously raised his voice over PTV airing Dirilis Ertugrul and now he is speaking out about this new reveal. Taking to Instagram he shared the news and wondered why Bilgic has been made a brand ambassador for a Pakistani brand.

Hussain asks, "Don't you think a Pakistani brand should have a Pakistani ambassador? Not Indian or Turkish?"

He goes on to question, "Is Mahira, Saba, Sonya, Minal, Aiman, Amar, Zara, Haniya, Sana, Yumna, Armeena, Sara, Hira... anyone not worthy enough to be a brand ambassador for a Pakistani brand?"

Not commenting further he ends his note saying, "Support Pakistani actors. Pakistan Zindabad," although he did manage to explain why wife Iqra Aziz's name wasn't in the list, saying, "I didn't take Iqra's name because she is already a mobile brand ambassador."

Like every time before, Hussain's comments became the conversation on Twitter. This time the reception was mixed as there were some who agreed with him.

But overall there were many calling him out, exhausted by the claim of supporting Pakistani artists when according to them, Pakistani content is not improving for the better.

Agree with Yasir on this one, if local Brands are not going to support Local industry then they they do-not deserve the local market share.

Yasir: Please don’t take refuge in loyalty appeals and emotional blackmail to save your bucks. Pull up your socks, produce quality content, and make us all proud of you. The Turks believe in excellence and they have proved it.

Very appropriate question. Esra Bilgic should consider working Pakistani dramas first instead of finding short cuts via advertisements.

I think the same argument is made by Indians when Pakistani artists were hired in their films/music. We should appreciate talent no matter where it comes from. I am pretty sure if Pakistani artists produce a blockbuster like Ertugal they will be hired by many more brands. If their shows are exported they will be hired by overseas companies too.

Why do our actors think they are entitled to all this? The quality of content that the majority of them produce is below par to anyone. And yet their sense of entitlement seems to never go away. Raising a generation of Free handouts and “my child you are the Best no matter how poorly you perform” isn’t going to get them very far. Esra is the choice because of her talent and acknowledgment she has received for her accomplishments. Our industry and actors need to First get there and then crib!

Not a single peep in all these years supporting Indian content and actors, but if we support Turkish actors then all hell breaks loose. Honestly, all our dramas are made in homes only, but at least their content shows beautiful landscapes, national monuments and even local places and restaurants that people can relate to.

Pakistani dramas are now without any content. it does not reflect our culture. these dramas are actually rubbish which cant be watched with family. only Ertugrul Ghazi can be watched with family and have a good content to see. We miss the PTV dramas of old era.

May be it helps Q mobile go global. Why do Pakistani s need a special lense to analyse everything. Religious people need to pass everything from religion perspective, actors trying to use Nationalism. By his logic, why do we eat foreign products and I am pretty sure His honeymoon was also not in Pakistan. List can go on.

Where were all these people when Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor etc were brand ambassadors for Q mobile. These so called vision less crops did not utter a single word against it. But all the fuss now because the turkish drama artists who have claimed fame in Pakistan due to authentic screen play, devoted efforts and captivating story which might result in these crops being ignored due to their pathetic rona dhona majboor bechari story lines and is hurting them to the core.

Pakistani dramas and entertainment content is no way near the quality of production, concept, story line, intensity of Turkish drama Ertugrul. If they want to be the brand ambassador, they need to move beyond useless topics circling around saas, bahu, piyar mohabbat, illicit relations allegations. Pakistanis also need to diversify their content from just showing the lifestyle of westernized and super rich elite. Sorry till then we are okay with Turkish brand ambassador.

Pakistani celebrities (or in this case, wannabe celebrity) should on from petty nationalism. We all celebrate when a Pakistani makes waves abroad. Please digest it if a foreigner makes waves locally. Eventually it's the content and quality that wins, not where the person is from.

The director's, artists, writers, actor's.. all can keep their eyes closed as acknowledging the facts will kill them... they have all failed.. And lets be honest,.. foreign actors/models are far more popular now then most of the so called media celebrities. So ... just take a deep breath and accept your failure.

Up your game, Yasir. Arts can't be a protectionist business and we can't live in a bubble isolated from outside world. The industry has been relying on the same recipe of dramas. Now there's competition. Although I do agree sponsorship for Pakistani national brands should be promoted by Pakistani artists. I mean Turkey or any other country would never pick a foreigner to promote their national brand. Anyhow maybe this will be a wakeup call hopefully
