I respect Samina Peerzada but cannot endorse Fair & Lovely, says Nadia Jamil
Nadia Jamil wants nothing to do with Fair & Lovely.
The actor recently recorded an interview on Samina Peerzada's show Rewind with Samina Peerzada and it was only after recording that she was made aware of the show being sponsored by Fair & Lovely.
She took to Facebook to make her stance on the brand very clear.
She wrote "I want to publicly distance myself form the heinously racist and demoralising brand Fair and Lovely. I had no idea they sponsor the interview I have recorded. Till right now."
She went on to call out the colourism perpetuated by the brand, letting her followers know that she is not and will never be complicit in the matter.
She continued "I cannot and do not endorse the need for ANY woman to lighten her skin to look more attractive. A woman’s dark skin is her beauty. She should wear it with extreme pride and love! Yes, us women come in different colours, shapes, sizes and personas. Deal with it world. Respect them all please. Stop telling us and making money off brainwashing the planet as to what our standard for beauty needs to be. We are all beautiful. Racism should not be endorsed. Body shaming should not be endorsed."
Jamil did make sure to point out that there is no disrespect from her towards Samina Peerzada who she "love[s] alot."
In the past, Jamil has also raised her voice for issues like sexual abuse, child labour and child trafficking.
