Hania Amir wants you to know that your skin does not define you

Being a celebrity does not mean perfection, wrote the actress in a candid Instagram post.

When normies feel so much pressure trying to conform to society's beauty standards, one can only imagine how much worse it is for celebs who are in the public eye.

Hania Amir has opened up about struggling with mild acne in a refreshingly candid Instagram post:

The actress calls her struggle with mild acne in the past couple of a months "quite a painful one" adding that she had "nights and days of crying, feeling insecure, anxiety".

After going through a rough phase for months, she went to a different dermatologist and her skin got better but it made her wonder: "Why is my skin defining me? Who has made these beauty standards that we always feel the need to match? The society? Clear skin is beauty?"

"I know that the idea of being “perfect” is appealing to majority but you don’t need to be an airbrushed flawless image to feel beautiful. Nobody should feel the pressure of matching the ridiculous societal beauty standards. Have your own. Beauty is within and anybody who makes you feel small because of what you LOOK like shouldn’t be around you!" she added.

She concluded the post with reminding her followers that just because she's a celebrity, it doesn't mean that she doesn't go through issues in life. "Perfection is not what we should be seeking, being comfortable in our own skin is the key.

This is my skin at the moment. Better than before but still not quite okay. But till I tackle it am I gonna hide myself from the world? Shy away from people? No. Yes I am struggling but my skin DOES NOT define me," she wrote.

Celebs like Meesha Shafi, Syra Shahroz and Asim Azhar (ahem) showed some major support in the comments:

I will not brush my teeth from now on. Why let my teeth define me?

I have struggled with body image and clear skin issues and dark circles all my life. I am 27 now, and it took me a lot of years to be okay with how I look, what my body is and the fact that my skin breaks out. Many girls are still shy. Mothers shame their daughters on this. Aunts shame their nieces. This has allowed people to become conscious much like men get conscious of sharing their salary figures. So I am glad that women are coming out to talk what is real, what exists. This is the cultural change we need. A change where we talk about what matters, the real issues.

@Moulvi WOW you have interpret it in totally wrong , unfair and quite foolish way ...... Teeth's health is in your hand But Not Skin, hair growth issue.... Cleanness and false aesthetic standards are way different

@Moulvi This. This is exactly the problem with people. Moulvi sahib still thinks that washing your face frequently enough will prevent/get rid of acne. Hormonal imbalances, genetics and other reasons don't seem to exist in this persons in depth knowledge of the subject. Moulvi sahib aap daant jitney bhi ragar lein, apke mun se jahalat ki badboo hee aye gi

It is celebrities who become brand ambassadors of beauty products like 'fair and lovely' and 'lux' etc. It is celebrities who set beauty standards, but why do they cry when they get caught in same situations like normies do? Sana Mir once talked about this beauty standard but no celebrity second her opinion. Jab khud py parti hai tu they start lecturing millions.
