Indian music producer Yashraj Mukhate just revived Annie Khalid’s iconic hit ‘Mahiya’ by remixing it with a viral video of a man stating that he simply does not like any of his relatives and it’s one of the best things we’ve seen online.

In the original video, an interviewer asks someone if they prefer their mother’s or father’s side of the family, and the man responds that he doesn’t even like the word ‘relative’.

In Mukhate’s hilarious remix, the man starts talking as the familiar beats of Khalid’s 2006 song play in the background.

Rishtedar pasaand hi nahi” [I don’t like relatives], the edit loops as Mukhate, clad in dark sunglasses with large headphones, plays the keyboard.

The producer then puts his own spin on Khalid’s lyrics and croons, “Meri bua ki bhabi ke beti ki shaadi mein kyun jaon, mahiya, ke hoon mein pareshaan, mahiya” [Why should I go to my aunt’s sister-in-law’s daughter’s wedding, mahiya? I’m distressed, mahiya].

We’re absolutely rolling on the floor laughing at this unexpected pairing of ‘Mahiya’ and a man talking about how much he dislikes his relatives. And, of course, it’s immensely relatable for all South Asians, because not many of us love hanging out with our relatives — looking at all the uncles and aunties who ask, “When are you getting married, beita?”

Needless to say, the internet loved the video. In the five days since it was posted, it attracted over 12 million views and 760,000 likes on Instagram, with Pakistani celebrities such as Mawra Hocane, Omair Rana, Zoya Nasir and Indian director Farah Khan Kunder hitting the like button.

Khalid herself commented on the video with a series of laughing emojis and said, “Oh yeah yeah.” We think her approval has been granted.

Mukhate pinned her comment to the post and called her “the OG.”

The producer is known for his immensely catchy remixes, including the viral ‘Rasoorey mein kon tha’ remix, which used a clip from the Indian drama Saath Nibhana Saathiya. The 2020 video was all over everyone’s Instagram and garnered 2.4 million likes and over 16 million views.

In 2021, made a remix of Dananeer Mobeen’s iconic “pawri hori hai” meme, which was an absolute bop. The video now boasts over nine million views and one million likes on Instagram.

Now, excuse us while we go listen to the ‘Mahiya’ remix and the original version on repeat.

When relatives are not sincere or honest and when they (as in most cases in Pakistan) dont have nor respect boundaries, personal spaces and stop meddling and interfering then yes dislike and even hate will become natural results. Annie Khalid, dubbed the Pakistani Britney Spears, has since gone on to make her own hair care products aiming at maintaining natural curls. Her music career pretty much died. Also she is a mother now so priorities change. She is doing well.

Let's hope the Indian organization doesnt cancel, ban or blacklist him as they have vowed to in another article. He is now an endangered species.

Two takes from this story: 1- It is the love for innocence and beauty, which is universal hate killer. That is why, the "Powry" was mentioned, even in the Indian Parliament! 2- The Curly girl has curls, not because of her beauty products but, because of her maternal Omani ancestry, having strong African roots.

@M. Saeed No where did I say her curls are due to her beauty products. I said she has left singing and started a hair care product line for curly hair. Curly hair requires special products to maintain and nurture the curls as opposed to straight hair. Secondly she has no Omani heritage/dna. Thats just part of the perpetual Pakistani identity crisis where many claim Arab heritage and dna. Her parents are both Pakistani who speak Urdu and punjabi. You see, Arabs are very proud of their heritage and language and do not allow it to just die out due to a mixed marriage (unlike Pakistanis). They (whether mother or father) zealously instill it in their kids, grandkids etc. Also Omanis tend to not marry outside and certainly not with South Asians. They are very tribalistic. Not a trace of Omani or Arab with Annie Khalid family. Curly hair while not common for Asians including South Asians it is also not rare. I know plenty. Also Oman is not Africa. Oman is a Gulf state in the Middle East or West Asia. Africa is a continent. Hope this clarifies.
