Will the Tomb Raider reboot break the spell of bad videogame movies?
Warner Bros. is looking to break the video game adaptation curse with their Tomb Raider reboot and the trailer seems to promise it.
After Warcraft and Assasins Creed broke everyone's hearts (Maybe it's our fault for expecting too much), we were very unsure about the Tomb Raider reboot.
Its been 15 years to Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider and while we're not implying that those were good, we just don't want to be hurt again.
But then the trailer launched last night and gamers cannot deny that it looks like the game.
The film is based on the 2013 video game reboot Tomb Raider so we'll be seeing the origins of Lara Croft as a sudden turn of events turn her into the fierce protagonist we love.
It looks like the creators of the film definitely did their homework. The storyline, while leaning more on a 'save the world' notion, seems to be very similar to the video game. There are cut-scenes from the game translated well for the silver screen and even some scenes inspired from levels in the game.
The wave director Roar Uthaug takes on the film and we like his work so far. While we cannot say much at this point what with just a trailer to go by but we're enjoying the action adventure approach taken by the director as that is what Tomb Raider needs.
Alicia Vikander, known for her Oscar winning performance in The Danish Girl takes on the role of Lara Croft. She doesn't exactly give off Lara Croft vibes but we're hoping our opinion changes when the film comes out.
Lara Croft is one of the few earlier female protagonists in video games, also an icon in gaming culture.
Tomb Raider is slated for release on March 16, 2018.
