Hamza Ali Abbasi praises Hafiz Saeed and people are very angry
Hamza Ali Abbasi needs no introduction.
His comments on Pakistan's current political landscape have caused a public backlash several times. Not surprisingly though, he has yet again managed to anger people over his tweets.
This time Abbasi's on the radar for commending Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed on his latest feat: Saeed's newly formed political party Milli Muslim League (MML) came in third place in the current NA-120 by-elections.
The JuD leader, who is currently under house arrest, is a controversial figure locally and internationally. Saeed had been accused by the United States and India of masterminding the 2008 attacks on the Indian financial capital Mumbai that killed 166 people. He, however, has repeatedly denied involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
In 2012, the United States announced a bounty of $10 million on Hafiz Saeed for his alleged role in the attack in which six American citizens were also killed.
Justifying his earlier tweet, Hamza tried to explain his stance:
And claimed that the JuD leader is only Anti-Indian government.
Commentators were understandably outraged and puzzled by Hamza's statements:
Earlier, Hamza came under fire after making "derogatory remarks about Pakistani passport" on his Bol TV show 'HQ Debate.' Pemra issued a notice to the private television channel stating that "airing of such derogatory remarks can spread hatred and provoke anti-Pakistani sentiments".
