After Jaipur, the set of Padmavati has again fallen victim to violence.

The set of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama was set on fire by a fringe group in Kolhapur, the historical capital of Maharashtra.

According to Times of India, reports claim that a group of 30-50 people were involved in this incident. They attacked the set late at 10.30pm on Tuesday, setting it ablaze with torches and petrol bombs. Allegedly, they managed to make their way through the bouncers and bodyguard present. The cast and crew were not on set at the time and are safe. However, there were animals present on set during the fire and a horse has been 'badly injured'.

A complaint was filed on Wednesday after which a few suspects have been taken into custody.

This is not the first attack on the set of Padmavati. Two months ago, when the film was being shot in Rajasthan, filmmaker Bhansali was assaulted by members of Karni Sena for "presenting wrong facts about (Indian princess) Padmavati" and tarnishing the history of their ancestors.

@Ishaan Do you actually really truly know what Bhansali is trying to convey? Let's not assume things and destroy other peoples' property.

Welcome to Modi's India. Minorities not welcome. Everyone must constantly prove their nationalism. If you are Muslim, keep your mouth shut else go to Pakistan. Freedom of expression not allowed. But hey, largest democracy in world.

I am not surprised. I follow India very closely. This rise of extremism is dangerous for India and will set it back like it did Pakistan. Just last week not a single Muslim was elected in secular India. Today a film set was burnt down. India beware ... non-secular elements of any shade are a threat to secular India.

@John sutton so a candidate should be elected just because he/ she is muslim? or they should be elected on basis of their work? There were muslim candidates from other parties in muslim majority areas. If they were not elected, it is people's choice. learn to accept.

@Jp i as a pakistani have no qualms in admitting that religious extremism has taken us to a place where we don't know what to do next. but for us half of the problem is solved as we have identified the problem. the remaining 50% is for finding a solution.

You mess with the bull, you get the horns. This director is notorious for distorting historical facts. Remember RamLeela, a lousy gujju love story . He was forced to change the title to golion ki raasleela. Could it be possible that it's a publicity stunt.

Feel sorry for Sanjay Leela Bhansali that he has to put up with such homegrown extremist in his own backyard. Dupeeka should stay in USA or better yet do films in London where she won't be targeted and threatened with death by her fellow extremist from BJP

Let the movie release. after watching people will decide, whether it offends their sentiments or not. If it will, Mr Bhansali will bear loss of millions as the majority of viewers will not watch movie. Thus nobody including Mr Bhansali will repeat such mistake in future. Mr Bhansali has a long experience in movie making, he will not make any such movies which gives him financial losses. Same things were faced by him at the time of release of Bajirao- Mastani. Later everybody liked the movie very much Society in India do not support these hooligans who are pseudo guards of Indian pride. Government must take strict action on these hooligans also act proactively to avoid such incidents.
