Pakistan’s — and arguably South Asia’s — king of pop music is making his musical comeback on July 31 with his first first album since 2007, Subah Aye Na.

The singer said the eight-track release was “a true representation of freeing myself from the chaos and meeting my real self. Stay tuned. I can’t wait for all of you to hear it”.

Aslam first announced his latest musical endeavour on June 15 to an emotional crowd in London’s O2 Arena. While he provided no details at all at the time, we can now confirm the track-list for his first album since 2007.

The singer is a true musical giant, with his work having an almost evergreen status for fans — many of whom are still singing along to songs he released well over two decades ago.

That’s despite the fact his repertoire has continued to expand since his last album and includes several singles and songs in films from Hollywood, Bollywood and the Punjabi film industry.

He’s also a popular choice for soundtracks from Pakistan, having lent his voice to the title tracks of a number of dramas.

Aslam was one of Pakistan’s most streamed artists last year on Spotify, which isn’t surprising when you realise his overall stream count is at almost eight billion. Ninety-six per cent of those streams aren’t even from the country, underscoring just how global his appeal is — he has regular listeners in 184 countries.

The singer also has a substantial appeal among the youth, with 85pc of his listeners being Gen-Z — which is to say, they were children when he started his musical career in the early 2000s.

We’re excited to see him back in action and the fact Spotify has a countdown ticking towards the release of Subah Aye Na isn’t helping.
