The first Pakistan Calling Film Festival is taking place this weekend
Karachiites, get ready for a movie-binge weekend!
At the Pakistan Calling film festival, we will have the chance to watch over 35 films — a mix of narrative and documentary shorts and two documentary features, Without Shepherds and These Birds Walk. Check out the full schedule here.
The festival is taking place at the ZVMG Rangoonwala Community Centre, Karachi on November 27-28.
What's special about the fest is that it puts the spotlight on the work of the underappreciated indie filmmakers of Pakistan.
"There are so many independent filmmakers in Pakistan who are making amazing films with great narratives but we rarely ever get to hear of them, therefore Karachi University and Rangoonwala came together to resolve this and highlight the work of these filmmakers by initiating the first ever 'Pakistan Calling Film Festival'," said the festival organisers to Images.
There will be panel discussions, on subjects as diverse as "The Nexus of Film and Television", "The Future of Animation in Pakistan", "The Business of Film" and "Film and Social Change". There are also workshops planned for aspiring actors, animators, writers and cinematographers.
"The Festival aims at showcasing the talent and work of all these filmmakers and form a community of filmmakers," the organisers added. "While the first Pakistan Calling Film Festival is fuelled by the passion of Pakistani filmmakers who dream big and work in strenuous conditions; we aspire to continue growing in the years to follow into a platform that brings together Pakistani thinkers and doers to work towards building a community of positive change-makers."
Films will also be competing for awards, which include Best Short Fiction, Best Animation and Best Non-Fiction Short Film.
