Udta Punjab producer Anurag Kashyap thinks India feels like North Korea

After the Censor Board proposed 89 cuts as well as a different title we can't say we blame him for drawing that parallel

Udta Punjab has made the censor board uncomfortable from the get go -- and it seems like the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) might not let the movie see the light of day in all its raw glory.

According to Times of India, the CBFC has now asked the producers to drop Punjab from the title, having earlier proposed 89 cuts from the movie for its excessive use of profanities.

In a review reportedly presided over by Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani, the committee recommended heavy cuts to temper the "reality" of the film. It also wanted the film to be set in a fictional land rather than in Punjab.

And it seems like that was the last straw for Anurag Kashyap, one of the producers of the grimy crime drama.

With a reference to the dictator regime of North Korea, he added his voice to members of the fraternity who have accused the Board of interfering with artistic freedom, tweeting:

Udta Punjab starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh in a pivotal role, deals with substance abuse and how it affects the youth of the state.

The movie was slated to release on June 17; however, that seems unlikely now.

Indian Punjab is plagued with drugs. Now it is too late for the blame game, we want our Punjab back as number one state. Now Indian Punjab is at rock bottom, even Bihar is doing better than Punjab. If Udta Punjab can benefit and save one life, its objective is fulfilled. We need not anti Pakistan movies, we need anti social evils' subjects movies.

These film makers are too touchy. At one instance he equates India with North Korea and still prefers to live and work in India. If he is not satisfied he can go to courts. Where is the problem.

Anurag Kashyap film is likely to have slangs in every 2 lines. But if we talk about content of film then his films are usually better than those double meaning masala films. Censor board could have given adult certificate. And when did Anurag visit North Korea?

How showbiz people want to show anything that sells, whether its profanity or obscenity, in the name of either arts or social realities. Whatever bad exists in society need not be propagated in the exact same ugliness on screen, for not everybody can take it purely in an artistic sense.
