Revealed: Here's the secret behind Sohai Ali Abro's fabulous new look
As promotions for Yasir Nawaz's upcoming movie Wrong Number have been in full swing, one thing has become evident: leading lady Sohai Ali Abro has her perfectly manicured finger right on the pulse of what's hot in fashion.
So how did this former television actress go from being the girl next door to the talk of the town? With the help of the right stylists, Tabesh Khoja of Nabila's, Sana Hafeez Sheikh and Mohsin Tawasuli of Sana Safinaz, Sohai has become the epitome of effortlessly chic. She's fun and follows the beat of her own drum fashion wise, not getting pigeon-holed into one type of look.
Speaking to Dawn.com, Tabesh shares: "I'd say I'm more of an image consultant to Sohai than a stylist. It's not just about the clothes or accessories; it's about the whole persona. When she signed Wrong Number and Jawani Phir Nahi Aani, I knew she was going to become a full-fledged celebrity with a lot more mileage and reach."
His attention to detail is certainly impressive.
"We discuss everything from the length of her hair to the colour to the length of her nails. I knew it was important to make sure she wears the right labels because people associate your image accordingly," he adds.
As the budding actress is so dizzyingly interesting, we can't help choose our favourite looks.
Here we dissect our top 5, along with some delightful insight from Khoja:
1) Edgy meets traditional with Delphi
Sohai looked like a Greek goddess in this unique crochet Delphi ensemble, with a brown smokey eye, bold brows and a nude lip.
"We kept her hair back in a tousled manner while still keeping the parting sleek -- there was so much happening in the outfit so it didn't need to be overshadowed by curls or anything like that. The choker from Outhouse is what really just cinched this look together and made it so high fashion," shares the stylist.
2) Angel in white in an Adnan Pardesy ensemble
Coupled with dewy skin, minimal makeup and Nadia Chottani jewels, the Pyaray Afzal leading lady looked radiant in this Adnan Pardesy ensemble.
Tabesh adds: "We've been steering towards ethnic wear and a desi look so my aim is to keep it modern yet modest; it's not too dhaka chupa but also doesn't incite people to say haye what is she wearing. Striking a balance was extremely important. You want her to seem relatable yet still someone you look up to as a fashion role model."
3) Slicked back pony tail paired with an Iman Ahmed summer jacket
With her hair in a high pony tail and fuchsia pout, Sohai goes back to the basics with spunk with this look.
"This look we literally pulled together in less than an hour! She got a last minute call to attend some promotional event and she was frazzled about what to wear. I simply asked if she had a black tank top and black pants with her and lucky for us, she did. I called up Iman Ahmed (of Body Focus) and just requested her to lend us the jacket and paired with Tom Ford heels, it all came together beautifully," explains Tabesh.
4) Mixing it up in Sania Maskatiya
In this psychedelic number, Sohai looks youthful yet sophisticated.
Khoja's thoughts?
"It's my favourite look," he reveals.
He adds: "It's just such a beautiful, chic outfit! We kept it very bold so thick, smudged out liner, a hot pink lipstick and statement accessories really elevated the look. Thank God for Sana Hafeez Sheikh for providing us with so many gorgeous Outhouse pieces!"
5) Dare to bare some shoulder in Sana Safinaz
The look that got people around town buzzing was simple but daring.
"This is where it all started. It shows just the right amount of skin to be considered decent but make a statement too. The pants, earrings and the updo made her look trendy and fresh," divulges the make-up artist/stylist.
No wonder the actress is so fond of taking "selfiyan"; who wouldn't be when you look that good?
