Four takeaways from Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's low-key wedding festivities

The couple tied the knot on April 14 surrounded by close family and friends.

Bollywood weddings are a big thing when it comes to style inspiration for brides and grooms and we hope people take cues from Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's intimate wedding that took place on April 14. With minimalism as the theme, both Bhatt and Kapoor chose close family and friends over extravagant arrangements and massive guest lists.

The actors tied the knot in an intimate ceremony held in Vaastu, Mumbai on Thursday in the presence of close family and friends. The wedding took place the day after their mehndi ceremony. Their wedding was still just a rumour up until the mehndi event became a reality with stars like Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor, Shweta Bachchan, Karan Johar and Armaan Jain in attendance.

The new day began with haldi ceremony and then the actual wedding that has become the talk of the town for all the right reasons. Here are some takeaways from the wedding.

Staying tight-lipped is cool

They say one must not brag about things but in Bollywood it has become quite common to hide all the wedding details for as long as you can. In fact, if you can hide the fact that there is a wedding, you'll be even more on trend. Safe to say, the hush hush nature of the event kept all of us on our toes, looking for more details about the bride and groom.

But Bhatt and Kapoor's wedding isn't the first to follow this strategy. Just a few months ago, Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal's destination wedding was kept hidden from the public. In return, it had the complete attention of everyone who anticipated the first glimpse of the couple.

Sabyasachi is the real king of Bollywood

No Bollywood wedding is complete without a Sabyasachi outfit (or two). While we've seen many, many other designs by the designer, what we didn't see coming is an ivory sari made especially for the bride.

The designer is known for his extravagant lehenga cholis and intricate handwork but his work for Bhatt really stood out. Many brides opt for flowy lehengas, but for Bhatt, a sari was the way to go. Her outfit featured dull-gold butterflies embroidered on her blouse, which was rather different for a designer that usually uses floral and geometric patterns on his clothes. The same design was embroidered across the drapery of Bhatt's sari while some of the motifs blended in with the groom, Kapoor's, chikan shawl that had zari and marori embroidery.

Jewellery is everyone's best friend!

There's no such thing as too much jewellery and in Bhatt's case with minimal makeup, any jewellery would've looked perfect. The bride opted for a headband teeka — a trendy jewellery piece that also made it to Kaif's wedding look — a choker necklace with matching long earrings, a ring and bangles.

Bhatt also wore thin churas (Punjabi red bangles) with diamonds encrusted in them and custom made kaleeras (gold wrist hangings worn by an Indian bride). Her kaleeras made the news for paying an ode to her now husband — she had an infinity sign incorporated in her jewellery and Kapoor's lucky number is eight. The bangles also had stars and clouds hanging with some birds in the end to balance the weight of it.

Her wedding necklace, called a mangalsutra, had an infinity sign as well a teardrop shaped diamond.

As for the groom, Kapoor accessorised his outfit with a seven-string pearl necklace, a watch and hat-brooch called kalangi attached to his headgear. The brooch too was made out of uncut diamond and light-green droplets at the end of it.

Congratulations are de rigueur

Many celebrities dropped by to wish the newlyweds congratulating after Bhatt took to Instagram to announce their wedding, including some of Kapoor's ex-girlfriends. She had written, "Today, surrounded by our family and friends, at home … in our favourite spot - the balcony we’ve spent the last 5 years of our relationship - we got married. With so much already behind us, we can’t wait to build more memories together … memories that are full of love, laughter, comfortable silences, movie nights, silly fights, wine delights and Chinese bites. Thank you for all the love and light during this very momentous time in our lives. It has made this moment all the more special."

In the comment section filmmaker Zoya Akhtar congratulated the couple and gave her blessings. Kaif, one of Kapoor's exes, also congratulated the couple.

Actor Anil Kapoor gave a warm welcome to the newlyweds and wrote, "welcome to the club". Padukone, another former girlfriend, wrote, "Wishing you both a lifetime of love, light and laughter". Preity Zinta also commented and congratulated the couple, so did Madhuri Dixit. Bhatt's co-star from Student of the Year, Sidharth Malhotra and actor Neha Dhupia also wished them.

Clearly, etiquette and politeness won over pettiness here and we're here for it!

While wedding festivities are over for the family, the real party is yet to begin for both Bhatt and Kapoor. According to Indian media, the couple will be throwing a reception for industry friends as their wedding festivities had only 20 to 30 guests in total.

The pair met in 2018 when they began filming for their upcoming film Brahmastra that will be releasing on September 9. The couple are very in demand these days as both have back to back films lined up. Bhatt has Darlings, Jee Le Zaraa, and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani coming up with the addition of her Hollywood debut in Heart of Stone alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan. Kapoor has Shamshera, Luv Ranjan’s untitled next project and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal in the pipeline.

After working decades in spreading their fragrance for the entertainment of their fans on screen, there hardly remains anything to be of real durable interest for their spouses of such damsels !
