Rumours of Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal's big fat Bollywood wedding were all anyone has been talking about for weeks and now the rumours finally have been proven true. The Bollywood actorsgot married on December 9 in a regal wedding in Jaipur after staying tight-lipped throughout their entire relationship.

Here are a few takeaways from the Vick-Kat wedding, what the Bollywood stars wore for their big day and what we think was unique.

Traditional outfit for the big day

With Bollywood stars we can never predict whether they'll go completely traditional like Deepika Padukone or go all out rainbow and colourful like Priyanka Chopra's mehndi outfit. Kaif chose to stick with a traditional bright red outfit that was least expected from the star who has been seen in pastels most of the time. In Hindu culture red represents the goddess Durga who symbolises new beginnings and feminine power.

The bride wore a classic Sabyasachi bridal outfit with “handwoven matka silk, fine tilla work and meticulously embroidered zardozi border in velvet,” wrote the designer in an Instagram post. He also mentioned that Kaif’s veil paid homage to the groom’s Punjabi roots with a custom-trimmed kiran (the gold ends) electroplated in gold.

The groom, Kaushal, wore an ivory silk sherwani also by Sabyasachi that had intricate marori embroidery and staple bengal tiger buttons to compliment the fit. The shawl he carried was made out of tussar georgette with zari and marori embroidered border.

A draper to save the outfit

It doesn’t end at just a stylist for Indian weddings or the wedding outfits. It is common in India to hire a separate person known as a draper to handle draping the lehenga, dupatta or sari. We were surprised to learn of the concept of a separate stylist to drape outfits but it seems to be commonplace in India.

Dolly Jain, a draper from Kolkata who holds a world record in draping a sari in 18.5 seconds, draped Kaif's bridal outfit. Her clientele includes A-list celebrities and top designers. Jain, who has been teaching the world about drapery via Instagram, charges approximately INR 35,000 to 200,000 for different kinds of drapery. She can drape in 325 ways and holds world record for that as well.

Traditional jewellery all the way

Kaif was not only dressed in traditional attire but paired the dress with heritage jewellery by the same designer. The look was accentuated with a statement necklace and matching earrings both made with uncut diamonds in 22k gold detail paired with a traditional nose-ring with pearl adornments and string. Kaif also donned a double matha-patti as the main headpiece. Her hair was pulled back in a sleek bun.

Other jewellery pieces worn by the star were gold bangles, a set of chura (Punjabi red bangles) and custom made kaleeras (gold wrist hangings worn by an Indian bride).

The kaleeras worn by the star were somewhat special as the actor combined her religion with that of her new husband. Kaif is Christian while Kaushal is Hindu. According to Pinkvilla the gold strings were designed by Rahul Luthra and Mrinalini Chandra and featured bespoke bird charms, custom messages by the bride herself, and a few words from the Bible.

Her official wedding necklace, also called mangalsutra, was designed by Sabyasachi as well, according to Pinkvilla. The black and gold beaded necklace is followed by a teardrop shaped diamond as well as a round one.

The groom wore a statement emerald necklace featuring rose-cut diamonds, quartz and tourmaline in 18k gold. He also added a hat-brooch called kalangi as part of Punjabi tradition.

Diamonds are a girl's best friend

By now we're sure that the sapphire rock on Kaif's ring finger has caught your attention. Kaushal seemed to have gifted the star a statement engagement ring from Tiffany & Co, an American jewellery retailer most famous for their luxurious wedding bands.

According to Pinkvilla the ring costs around INR 0.75 million.

Makeup and hair

With a heavily embellished outfit, Kaif chose to stick with neutral tones for her makeup on the big day. Indian makeup artist Daniel Bauer did her makeup. He has made quite a name in the industry for doing red carpet looks as well as fashion shows, and has done makeup for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Vaani Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Disha Patani and more.

Amit Thakur, Kaif's hairstylist, also did her hair for her big day. The simple hair bun was followed by a string of white flowers and middle parted sectioning for her headpiece.

Now that the details of the bride and groom's looks are out, we can't wait for details of the wedding reception itself and more pictures, of course.

What is the use of all such fabulously costly wedding dresses when they have to be worn once and then stored in boxes for the daughter's marriage, often rejected by daughters, when their time comes, due to being outdated?

There is no formal conversion to be Hindu. Anyone can participate as it appeals to them. Neither are there any objections to continuing their own beliefs.
