Model and anchor Iffat Omar appeared as a character witness in court on Saturday (the first being Saba Hamid) on behalf of Meesha Shafi to support the allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar.

During her deposition, Omar recalled that Shafi had been very disturbed over the issue before she went public with her allegations against Ali Zafar.

She told the court that Saba Hamid and Shafi both enjoy a good reputation in the industry and are highly respected. She said, “I can never imagine that they would ever lie.”

Omar stated that Shafi had visited her at her home 10 days before her initial tweets accusing Zafar of sexual harassment, and had seemed very distressed but would not reveal what was wrong. Shafi only detailed the incident after she went public with the allegations, Omar said.

Omar told the court that she was aware of the allegations levelled by Leena Ghani, Maham Javaid and Humna and that she fully believed in the allegations made by these women.

Omar also told the court that there are other women who have also levelled similar allegations against Zafar; however, they have not done so publicly for fear of backlash and threats.

"It is very difficult for any woman to go public with something like this," Omar noted in her statement to the court. "I'm not supporting Meesha just because she's my friend."

The court has adjourned the cases to November 9, 2019.

Saba is Meesha's mother and Iffat is her personal friend. How can court accept such biased witnesses?
