Dunya News removes Mohsin Abbas Haider from Mazaaq Raat following domestic violence charges

Dunya News announced that the actor will no longer be a DJ/host on its talk show, Mazaaq Raat.
Updated 24 Jul, 2019

Dunya News will no longer be working with Pakistani actor and singer Mohsin Abbas Haider, the channel announced, adding that they will be dropping him from their line-up of hosts on their talk show Mazaaq Raat.

In a statement issued on its Instagram and Twitter accounts, Dunya News stated that it has decided to remove Haider from the Mazaaq Raat brand and roster owing to the serious nature of charges levelled against him as well as the overall situation that has deeply hurt the feelings of the public.

"After the audience has made its sentiments very clear and spoken out about the issue on various platforms, Dunya News has decided to dissociate from Mohsin Abbas Haider."

"Any episodes of Mazaaq Raat airing right now were recorded before the accusations came to light," Dunya News said.

"The FIR against Haider has been registered under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code and includes charges of hurling life threats on the complainant," the channel stated, adding that "according to the FIR, Mohsin took five million rupees from his wife and did not return the money".

The channel further stated that until Haider is able to clear his name and prove his innocence, Dunya News will not be working with him anymore.

On Saturday, the Na Maloom Afraad actor was accused of domestic abuse and cheating by his wife, Fatema Sohail in a Facebook post.

Since then, celebrities, fans, activists and lawyers have flocked to Fatema's support and the Women Protection Authority and Punjab Government are handling her legal case.

Totally fine from the show's point of view. However, he is innocent until proven guilty. I doubt that the show will suffer in any way.

Mohsin Abbas Haider was not a hero material, right from the day one. How he ascended to the high pedestal, is not only surprising but, highly intriguing.

our justice system our media and our culture -- all are feministic. Even if he took the money, what's wrong with that? Wasn't the whole expenses of his wife his responsibility all along? Does marriage mean man is the only provider and woman should have no contribution? If it would have been the other way around (he giving the money to her), no one would have even raised an eyebrow. But it's a weird culture with no equity and equality, so it's fine. Women deserve care, respect, and preferential treatment no matter the circumstances.

Very good decision the actor thought he can get away with such serious allegations and still enjoy fame and wealth at the expense of his brutal behaviour with his wife. He should be made an example to all those who take women for granted. Physical and mental abuse is something no one should allow in their lives.

A case has been registered against the actor for beating his wife on many occasions. There are many eye witnesses to the abuse. She went to the hospital with physical injuries. This guy is a very violent person. The hospital should have called the police after the medical examination. Again this is Pakistan where women are always at the mercy of their husbands and beaten daily for no reason. This culture of abuse must stop, the police/ courts must respond quickly in arresting the culprits and sending them to jail. Women are treated as slaves and not as equal partners. I appreciate the TV channel,s decision to drop him from their programs. This will send a strong message to men that domestic abuse can,t be tolerated in our society/country. This guy is not going to be available for tv shows for few years because he will be in jail where he belongs. A little late but very good decision by the tv channel. No job, no money to buy food and no place to live will be a good therapy for him.

@Mrs.khalil . There are eye witnesses of wife,s beatings. One of the acquaintance who took her to the hospital for injuries which needed medical attention has collaborated her allegations. It was widely known in the celebrity circles that the culprit was a constant wife beater and abuser. The medical reports and the witnesses testimony are enough to register a case against him and let the courts decide.. Its not he said or she said as you described at this point. There is enough evidence to convict Mohsin. He never denied publicly that he did not beat his wife or no extra marital relations with other women while he was married. Instead of beating or torturing his wife, if he could not get along with his wife, he should have filed for divorce proceedings and pay for child support. They have been married for four years and they had a son together. Its his responsibility to care of the child who is a innocent victim. Police don,t file a case unless there is enough evidence.

@Mrs.khalil I agree with mrs a bus. Every one is innocent unless proven guilty. Our TV dramas consistently show father hitting son father hitting daughter mother hitting Son mother hitting daughter husband hitting wife wife hitting children . Art imitates life , if they show this violence on TV then people justify it in their own life . we should stop depicting wiolence in our TV dramas.

Wife Beaters like Mohsin Abbas Haider are pure animals and not real men, they are totally insecure with themselves and have to lash out on innocent people. If they can't respect women, girlfriends or, wives they can't respect anything. Anyone in that kind of a relationship should get out of it as soon as possible or they could end up being dead.

Finally, someone gets it! This is how things should be. Now the police and the justice department needs to do their job and build a strong case based on facts and witnesses and send this man to jail. Additionally, the courts should do their job and award 75% of Mohsin wealth and current and future earnings to his ex-wife and son, so they can maintain their lifestyle. I know that there are many supporters of Mohsin and in my opinion they should also be investigated to make sure they are not doing the same to the women in their family. Pakistani society needs to change and Pakistanis should realize that it is never okay to physically harm or threaten anyone i.e. an adult or a child. It is a crime and the criminals should never be protected nor Pakistanis should feel bad/sympathy about criminals (of course the criminals only feel remorse when get caught) instead criminals should be sent to jail, which is the right thing to do.

"Innocent until proven guilty" ???. Wouldn't it set the precedent for "anyone" to ruin someone's career just by blaming right/wrong? What happened in Ali Zafar case, accuser never showed up in the court to prove her allegations - Is Canada on the Mars? Anyway I've already stopped watching Maza-Raat after their illogical and unfair treatment of him, without waiting the court decision.
