Abhay Deol attacks Shah Rukh Khan and others for endorsing fairness creams

From SRK to Deepika Padukone, Deol didn't let anyone walk away unscathed
12 Apr, 2017

In the wake of BJP leader Tarun Vijay making comments about how Indians aren't racist because they're accepting of South Indians who have dark skin, actor Abhay Deol has put out a series of sarcastic posts that question the part Bollywood celebrities play in perpetuating the idea that fair skin is better.

John Abraham, Abhay sees you being a sell-out.

Vidya Balan hasn't been spared from Deol's wrath either.

Deepika, Abhay expected better from you.

Deol wasn't scared of dragging King Khan into the debate either.

The actor wrapped it up by driving his point home; if we want racism and xenophobia to end, we have to start by checking ourselves and those around us who encourage these schools of thought.

Talk about being brave enough to call a spade a spade. You can read all his posts here.

Bravo Abhay for calling a spade a spade. This racism against black color is so much ingrained that we do not even realize. Its nice that a celebrity like you stands in with a mirror in the hand.

Abhey Deol is arguing with nature. Some things are pleasing to eyes, some are not. That's a fact of life. Nobody should blame the person as some things are out of control but to totally deny that there is differentiation is plainly wrong. Why we want our babies to have fair color? As they look more cute in them and we get sad when their color gets faded as they do not look that much cute to everyone. If we start denying that no they are still cute as they were, it's like shutting our mind to accept reality. People in general do look better to the eyes with fairer skin, that's a fact - whether it's sad or unjust that's another debate. Everyone wants to look good in front of others (with few exception) and fairness creams attempt to meet this desire. Nothing wrong in that.

The dark skin is not just in South India; it is in East, West, and North India too. Just because fair skin is slightly more common in these places does not mean that the Indian (and Pakistani) people are not seen as being dark-skinned by outsiders. The vast majority of people in India and Pakistan have a very sub-ordinate and low esteem of themselves and hence the naked and public desire for fair skin. People like Abhay Deol are a rare commodity, especially when they use their prominence to fight in-justice, because that is what it boils down too. Personally, I love dark skin as it is sexy; does not mean that I do not like fair skin too. It all depends on the over-all personality of the person.

@analyses your views are coming close to how a racist person would think and glorify fair screen. In your case its probably not voluntary and just a deeply ingrained bias due to the social conditioning you have gone through. You need to reflect on this and figure out how you can come out of this deep prejudice.

To sum it up all. Such cover-up makeups just conceal the truth making the wearer a false person who hides reality.

Fair and lovely is neither fair nor lovely. It is downright racist. Hindustanis are 56 shades of brown. Period. Fair skin is not the lovely tone. Be fair in your dealing and not skin. Fairness creams promote racism and inferiority complex in the fairer sex. Their promotion needs to be banned.

This idea of White is right goes back to the days of colonial rule where our fascination of the white skin contributed to our downfall. In the West they want to go dark!

@analyses Abhay is exactly making the point for people like you. There is nothing wrong if someone finds fairer skin attractive but it should not be the opinion that needs to be promoted . Advts like this force an opinion on the society to think dark people do not fit in the society. This also promotes racism.bollywood stars are highly influential. Just like we don't want them to promote tobacco products or drinking alcohol these adverts are not in the good of the society as a whole.

@analyses your mind set and comments are a reflection of the racist and sexist mindset that exists in the society. I feel pity for your wife and children. How can an individual be saddened at looking at a child??? Have you not seen black babies in America? They are actually very cute and adorable! Have you not seen very pale, sorry to say ugly white people? This clearly shows that skin colour doesn't define your beauty, its your facial structure and features that do!!!! I think bipasha basu is one of the most beautiful looking actresses in Bollywood and not Kareena khan who looks like a white horse
