The trailer for Omair Rana and Ahad Raza Mir’s new spy flick — based on the beloved Urdu novel series Inspector Jamshed — is out and it has everything we’d been expecting: fast cars, blazing guns, secret societies and the power of family to bring everyone together.

DRM Production released the trailer for Inspector Jamshed: The Secret Parchment on Friday, with Rana’s silver screen debut as the titular sleuth taking centre stage. The movie is slated for release in 2027.

The plot appears to revolve around a secret parchment — no points for guessing that one — and a series of murders committed by Ahad’s handsome and seemingly eccentric Behzaad, the film’s main antagonist.

Jamshed is aided in his quest by his three kids — Mehmood, Farooq and Farzana, played by Ravel Imran and sibling duo Ahmed and Aline Harkous. Anoushay Abbasi plays his wife Shakeela and Asif Raza Mir — who is also a co-producer of the project — plays the inspector’s trusty friend Khan Rehman.

The trailer has no shortage of explosions, fancy gizmos and scenic shots of Abu Dhabi, where the movie was shot. We also see a hint of struggle between Jamshed and Shakeela when Behzaad kidnaps their daughter.

The film is based on prolific Urdu novelist Ishtiaq Ahmed’s series of children’s novels which followed the adventures of a super spy and his three kids as they fought evil alongside a cast of side characters.

The writer, who passed away in 2015, began writing in 1973 and wrote almost 800 books in his lifetime. His other popular works include the Inspector Kamran Mirza and Shoki Brothers series.

In an earlier clip, Ahad and Faran Tahir — who plays Zafar Burki in the film — said the project was very special to them because they “grew up” reading books from the series.

Rana said the undertaking was like “the whole world coming together” owing to its diverse cast and crew, which includes people from over 13 nationalities.
