Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson to return for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
Actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to the Hunger Games as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, based on Suzanne Collins’ latest novel, which was released in March this year.
Starting on the morning of reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, the film is set 24 years before Katniss and Peeta first entered the killing field as tributes for District 12 with Haymitch Abernathy as their mentor.
Set to release on November 20, the film will primarily focus on Abernathy’s experience in the games when he was 16. Even though the nature of Lawrence and Hutcherson’s cameo is kept under wraps, according to Variety, the characters will appear alongside Haymitch, “which indicates some sort of flash-forward”, the report added.
The film will be directed by Francis Lawrence — who also directed The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Catching Fire, Mockingjay - Part 1 and Mockingjay — Part 2. Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson will return to their role as producers. The screenplay is written by Billy Ray.
As per Variety, Elle Fanning will play the role of a younger version of Effie Trinket (originally played by Elizabeth Banks); Ralph Fiennes will play President Coriolanus Snow (preivously played by Donald Sutherland in the original films and Tom Blyth in the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes prequel); Kieran Culkin will be the TV host Caesar Flickerman (previously played by Stanley Tucci); and Jesse Plemons will be Plutarch Heavensbee (previously played by Philip Seymour Hoffman).
Other cast members include Kelvin Harrison Jr, Glenn Close, Maya Hawke, Mckenna Grace, Billy Porter, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang, Molly McCann, Iona Bell and Percy Daggs IV.
