Humayun Saeed wants you to join the entertainment industry. The actor launched a talent hunt on Thursday to find the next generation of stars to work on screen and behind the scenes.

In a post on Instagram, the Main Manto Nahi Hoon star said he was looking for “talented young individuals” who wished to “become part of the creative process in any way”. The post gave a list of roles participants could try out for: assistant producers, assistant directors, line producers, art directors, production designers, writers, performers, singers, musicians, editors, VFX artists and graphic designers.

Saeed said participants would be trained to take on “diverse leadership roles” and didn’t require an education or prior background in the arts. He encouraged fresh graduates to apply to the programme, but said there was no set age criteria. The “passion and commitment” of applicants is what matters, the actor said. Applications for the talent hunt can be emailed to the team at thehumayunsaeedofficial@gmail.com.

This year has been big for fresh talent in Pakistan, as the country gears up for a revival of Pakistan Idol after a decade-long hiatus. Fawad Khan, Zeb Bangash, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Bilal Maqsood have been confirmed as judges for the show. Pakistan is also getting its very own franchise of the world’s most popular TV talent show, Got Talent.

Oh yeah, let's get some tips from a super-star, Oscar-winner, with a star on the Walk of Fame (in his village perhaps)... on how to make it big in Hollywood. Watch out Tom Cruise, you have competition!

That's all Pakistan needs, more YouTubers, Actors, Imitators and who have no other skills. Forget about Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) the skills that will be critical for the 21st century. With AI even Hollywood stars are feeling insecure as voice, face and gesture can be imitated. And Pakistanis are regressing to becoming what will guarantee their unemployment and joining the refugee, asylum seekers train to EU - which is closing fast.

This is why Pakistan will never progress, join BRICS or even G-20. Even India doesn't require more actors, with the largest film industry in the World. Instead, their IIT graduates around 25000 Engineers, IT specialists, Scientist each year, who eventually join the burgeoning IT industry in India, or abroad. Indian IT exports alone, earn over $100 Billion a year. While Pakistani IT is not even 1% of that. Also, dozens of US IT firms from MIcrosoft, IBM, Micron Tech, Google, etc are headed by or have top executives who are all Indian-born who came to the US with skills and also earn higher degrees in the US. While Pakistanis want to all end up in Lahore as actors, dancers or Youtuber copy-cats!

Oh Yeah! Pakistan needs more Entertainers, rather than good Educators! Why learn something useful, practical and which is sustainable in the long-term, instead of something that could be replaced with AI mimics? Even lawyers, accountants, medical transcription, interpreters, researchers and even computer programmers are being replaced by AI. All these professional skills required years of studies, college degrees and training. exams and certification. Actors could be replaced by your average GPU on a laptop!

This is so insanely laughworthy I don't even know where to start. Yes, Mr Humayun Midlife Crises Saeed wants to "help" aspiring talents by knowing his competition and keeping them busy with blink-and-you-will-miss-it forgettable roles for decades, while he himself hogs all the male romantic lead roles opposite female leads half his age. He seems really scared of ageing and won't accept father, father in law roles. This could also be a ploy to create some reality talent show on TV for ratings at the expense of average people trying to get an entry into show business. And finally it's definitely to influence candidates and mould them into misogynists. Though, I would think, Saeeds many collaborations with his BFF, Khalilul Rehman, and Saeeds own drama production company already did the job. People who think this is a sincere invitation to help and groom talent will be in for a rude awakening.

Entertainment is a big industry in need of proper life after thorough grooming. Like the entry in civil services through CSS exam, we must establish an official entertainment talent hunt programme through an independent competition under a selected body, with a firm charter of rules and regulations.

In the Asia Cup Cricket, we are playing an experimental team under a politician as it's Super Captain in the drawing room! Imagine our team performances under well disciplined and highly educated Captains like Kardar, Fazal Mehmood, Javed Burki, Majid Khan, Imran Khan etc. Where are the captains we see these days, in comparison?
