Humayun Saeed doesn’t take criticism of his dramas too seriously

The actor said giving harsh criticism was 'bread and butter' for those who review dramas and asked fans not to get riled up in their comments.

What does Humayun Saeed do when he hears criticism of his work? He laughs. He said as much in a recent interview with journalist Ambreen Fatima, where he said he doesn’t lose sleep over reviews of his dramas.

He said he knows most people who critique dramas on YouTube or television personally, so he understands that they’re just making a living and that they “get paid to criticise”. Humayun said, “Just like we do our dramas, let them do theirs.”

In an appeal to fans, the Love Guru star asked people not to hurl abuses at reviewers and drama critics in the comment sections under their videos. Saying that many of the critics were his seniors, Humayun said they had a “right” to judge his acting and reiterated that they were just doing their jobs.

Speaking about his new drama Main Manto Nahi Hoon, which Humayun produced and stars in, he said the serial demanded attention and scrutiny from the audience. He’s enjoying the role of Manto, since he said it’s a difficult, grey character, very different to his actual personality.

He described costar Sajal Aly as one of the best actors in the industry today, along with names such as Yumna Zaidi and Sanam Saeed. He said he felt lucky and happy to star alongside Sanam and Aly, even though he “had to create the opportunity himself” as the show’s producer.

Talking about Saima Noor, he said casting her was the director’s idea and he agreed with him, as did writer Khalilur Rehman Qamar. The host and Humayun agreed her character ended up becoming the most popular on the show. The actor also spoke briefly about how Saima is usually busy and how he had to go to her husband, Syed Noor, to convince her to join this project.

He promised the drama was going to get more “eventful” as it goes forward. Humayun said fans will have the dialogue to look forward to in the next couple of episodes.

This is notably not the first time criticism of Main Manto Nahi Hoon has been questioned. Last month, when the drama had just aired its first few episodes, actor Aagha Ali objected to Marina Khan and Atiqa Odho critiquing Saeed’s appearance on the show. He said that critiquing an actor’s performance is fine, but making fun of their wardrobe isn’t helping anyone.

I hope the drama "Main Manto Nahin Hoon" in the end doesn't become a ridiculous drama by showing unrealistic relationship between 31 year old student (Sajal Aly) and 54 year old teacher(Humayun Saeed)?

Of course, Humayun Midlife Crises Saeed doesn't take criticism seriously. You can tell that by simply reviewing his projects. He and his BFF, Khalil misogynist Qamar, don't care as long as they get views and both keep hiring each other. Agha Ali should also not behave like a snowflake. Atiqa Odho and Marika Khan are hired to review dramas and the wardrobe is a part of it. Thick knitted roll neck paired with a fur leather winter jacket?? When it is clearly summer and everybody else in the background is wearing lawn and cotton, it looks ridiculous. And noticeable. This is Pakistan. Not Europe or US. Come on.

I liked most if not all of H Saeed dramas. Same for Qamar sahib. But HS role in this is strange. Being Prof of such a top Univ & himself having high integrity, his interaction w Sajal, her talking like a friend rather than 1st term student, barging into his office for non study related talk, arranging Guards protection w/o even asking him, HS dialogues & talk is innocent like a school boy, not a professor, then acting like a macho in fight ... is Qamar showing the latest trend of education in our top Universities. STRANGE. Hope story in next episodes shows good sense. As of now 2/10 marks, both for HS & K Qamar sahiban.

@Jamil Soomro It's already a ridiculous drama judging by it's writers track record and the not so glowing reviews. That said, Humayun Midlife Crises Saeed only signs up as romantic male lead. He seems to have a personal aim to be cast next too every young top actress. So a non-romantic ending would be a surprise. We can only hope he retires. So other younger and more suitable and incoming talented actors can get a chance.
