A Lahore sessions court dismissed on Friday actor Nazish Jahangir’s petition requesting interim bail for failing to appear in court. An FIR was filed against her, accusing her of committing fraud.

The FIR, filed by fellow actor Aswad Haroon, invoked Section 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code which pertains to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. It alleged that Jahangir, who knew Haroon through the entertainment industry, asked to borrow his car and Rs2.5 million for two months for a project, but failed to return it despite six months passing.

Haroon claimed that Jahangir asked to meet him at a farmhouse to return the car’s papers but failed to show up and instead sent a man named Sikandar Khan who threatened him with weapons. The FIR stated that Khan threatened to kill Haroon if he ever reached out to Jahangir again.

Haroon requested that the police take action, return his belongings and offer him protection.

In response, Jahangir filed a petition requesting pre-arrest bail. The petition stated that the FIR was registered with “malafide intention and for ulterior motives just to humiliate and harass the petitioner”.

“The petitioner, if arrested, will be humiliated, therefore instant bail petition is being filed,” it read.

However, the court dismissed Jahangir’s plea on Friday due to “non-prosecution”. According to the court order, “Despite repeated calls with different intervals, [no one] has appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioner.”

Jahangir and Haroon appeared in a 2023 telefilm called Aatish-e-Ishq alongside Saba Faisal.

What would most of Pakistan be doing if not for court cases? The entire country just seems to working in courts.

Our courts, law enforcement, parliament are just run by monkeys. Nobody respects the courts. Except the poor man. Rich people and males can just choose to not turn up. They won't be arrested for showing contempt of court. Money, connections and privileged males afford you freedom and no accountability. Unless you are female, poor, a minority or a victim. This is a lawless country. Until we eliminate corruption nothing will change.

These celebrities think they are above the law. Arresting PTI female workers is so easy for police, but arresting female celebrities is like a no-go area. WHY?

@CHIPMONK33 This is Pakistan. The PTI women thought this was Europe or America. Now they know. They were given a taste of reality The reality which sadly many women, often innocent have been facing by being wrongfully imprisoned. I have never seen PTI or their supporters ever voice any concern for the millions of women languishing in Pakistani jails, being prostituted to officials, senior officials elites, abuse, and as a result thereof they fall pregnant, are forced to undergo abortinos, beaten and brutalized in ways I cant even describe etc. This started in particular under Zia ul Haq. How do you not know that? So, kindly, speak for them too and not just PTI women from May 2023, who were treated much better than the common Pakistani woman in jail is. They are free. No casualties. This privilege does not extend to the common woman. Pakistan is not safe for when no matter how long and hard we deny it. Until this changes, nothing else will. PTI or PPP or whatever party or no party woman. City woman or village woman. Educate or illiterate. I am not condoning imprisonment. I am simply stating the reality for women. This is at all levels of society. No woman should be in Pakistani prison.
