Moments from the Ambani pre-wedding celebrations that we can’t get out of our heads
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know there’s another Ambani family wedding underway across the border that we’ll now have to talk about, especially since we weren’t invited cough cough.
Annoying as it may be to scroll through your social media feeds and see nothing but Ambani wedding content, there’s also something immensely entertaining about it. Their money seems to make the world and Indian celebrities go round — literally.
Billionaires, actors, socialites, you name it, and the Ambanis have them wrapped around their fingers. Their events — cultural launches, wedding parties et al — have surpassed Marvel in terms of storytelling, star presence, and multiverse crossovers. Their vibrant (read, in your face) display has left everyone questioning what they know about lavish weddings. Move over Decemberistan, Ambanistan is here and ready to party.
But apart from how lavish and over the top the three-day “pre-wedding” affair has been, certain events from the celebrations will be etched in our memories forever and certain others need to be pitched to Netflix for Murder Mystery 3, if not an Ambani reality TV series. The latter could potentially be India’s most lucrative cultural output yet.
Keeping up with the Ambanis, Crazy Rich Ambanis, Crazy Lives of Ambani Wives, Succession: Reliance, we could go on and on. But this is not a pitch on behalf of the Ambanis to Netflix. This right here is a round-up of all the crazy, weird, cross-cultural moments that defined the Ambani pre-wedding experience. In case you missed out on some of these moments, keep reading.
SRK-Riri movie when?
We all saw Jahnvi Kapoor and Rihanna dancing the night away on Instagram and everyone and their mothers reacted to that video, but somehow, this picture of Shah Rukh Khan and Riri has gone relatively unnoticed.
How could we let that happen? There is so much to be discussed here. Did SRK get Rihanna to sign a movie deal? Did Rihanna, like the rest of us, feel disarmed by his boyish charm and decided to rope him in for her next music video? Was it an ego clash between that only they could sense? We need an official statement ASAP!
Big B meets Baby Trump
There was a meeting of royalty at the party — one of a rather dubious kind. Big B — Amitabh Bachchan — and his family seemed to hit it off with Ivanka Trump, who is, of course, the daughter of Donald Trump, the former US president who loves red hats, frighteningly orange tans and supporting racism.
Whoever recorded this convo between Ivanka and the Bachchans needs to release it soon because we need to know what they were talking about. Is Ivanka eyeing a career in Bollywood? Is Big B eyeing a position in the White House? The possibilities are endless.
Diljit literally said, ‘Beyonce who?’
Another viral moment from the pre-wedding was this video of Diljit Dosanjh that had us all excited but also kind of wincing with embarrassment. In his attempt to compliment Kareena Kapoor, Dosanjh threw shade at Rihanna and Beyonce. And while we all aspire to attain Pooh-hood in this lifetime, nobody, and we mean, NOBODY, can be compared to the ultimate IT girls.
‘Mr Lonely’ returns and pulls everyone on stage
You’d think that Rihanna would be showstopper for the Ambani pre-wedding festivities but these billionaires got Akon to relive his biggest and possibly only hit in India and had us all glued to our screens.
What started off as a reunion between King Khan and Akon — who sang ‘Chammak Challo’ for his movie Ra One — turned into a haphazard performance featuring the Khan family, Salman Khan and the Ambanis.
To be honest, this looked like a lot more fun than the Rihanna concert.
Tell us you’re an Ambani without telling us you’re an Ambani
And to cap it all off was this moment in which Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan were green with envy over groom Anant Ambani’s watch. It apparently made Zuckerberg actually want to get a watch.
When you’re an Ambani, you’ve got bling that even billionaires are going to admire.
To sum it up, their wedding looks fun and Netflix should totally take our advice seriously and commission a reality show for this family.
