They say paradise lies beneath the feet of mothers but despite our mothers being the most important people in our lives, we often take them for granted. To celebrate the love, efforts and endless labour — that mostly goes unpaid — the world comes together every year on Mother’s Day. This year, it was on May 14.

Even though we believe that everyday should be a day to commemorate our mothers and we should always appreciate all they do for us, this Sunday we had the opportunity to do something special for them. Just like the rest of us, Pakistani celebrities also acknowledged their love for their mothers on social media.

Each wish was heartfelt in its own way but we compiled some of our favourite wishes from your beloved celebrities.

Fatima Bhutto

Writer Fatima Bhutto shared an awe-inspiring memory of her grandmother, Begum Nusrat Bhutto, wife of former PM Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, reminding us that Mother’s Day is not only for women who gave birth to us but also the ones who raise and inspire us to become better versions of ourselves.

“I think Mother’s Day is a complex holiday, fraught and fragile, one that so many people struggle with emotionally. But when I think of the sacrifice and struggle and the profound joy and heartbreak of motherhood, I cannot think of anyone more moving than our Joonam,” she wrote.

She recalled Begum Nusrat being “imprisoned, threatened, beaten” by military dictator General Ziaul Haq’s soldiers. “Joonam didn’t go to the hospital to get the stitches she required. She went straight to the governor’s house, bleeding, unafraid, to protest the use of violence and force used against the people. She fought a dictatorship. “

She added that she is “eternally grateful to have learned about motherhood and what it means to be a woman and a fighter from her.”

Azaan Sami Khan

Singer, producer and actor Azaan Sami Khan released the first artwork for his upcoming album to celebrate his mother. In his new album, “there’s a song on the album called ‘Maa’,” he wrote, adding that the song is dedicated to his mother, actor Zeba Bakhtiar.

“Thought this would be the best way to release the first artwork for the album,” the ‘Ibadat’ singer said.

“I don’t think there’s much more to say. ‘Maa’ for me is for my Amma, however, I hope it’s for yours too once it’s out. Happy Mothers Day.”

Actor Mahira Khan commented under Azaan’s post that she “can’t wait to hear it”.

Babar Azam

Going the route of simplicity, the skipper Babar Azam shared an endearing picture with his mother.

“Happy Mother’s Day. Love you Mama,” the batter wrote.

Hania Aamir

Another simple yet heartfelt wish was made by actor Hania Aamir.

“Mother’s day Mubarak sha our beautiful angel,” said the Mujhe Pyar Hua Tha actor. She also shared a series of adorable pictures with her mother on Instagram.

Muneeb Butt and Aiman Khan

Actor Muneeb Butt not only wished a great Mother’s Day to his own mother but also took this opportunity to celebrate his wife and the mother of his child, actor Aiman Khan.

Calling them the “best mothers” he knows, he shared pictures of Aiman and his mom in a slide share on social media.

The Baandi actor also shared pictures with her mother and sister, actor Minal Khan.

She wished “all beautiful mothers” a happy Mother’s Day.
