Nida Yasir responds to backlash for inviting viral dance girl Ayesha on her show
Social media has made a lot of people celebrities in their own way, especially on TikTok. In 2021, we saw Dananeer Mobeen become an internet sensation with her viral “pawri” video and this year it was Ayesha, a girl who went viral for her dance on Lata Mangeshkar’s ‘Mera Dil Ye Pukary Aaja’ remix. As per tradition, Nida Yasir called her on her show Good Morning Pakistan however, the TV show host was heavily criticised for it. Now in a recent interview, Yasir responded and said she’s not at “fault”, rather it’s people who turn regular people into internet celebrities.
The TV show host appeared on Express TV’s The Talk Talk Show with Hassan Choudary where she talked about the hate she received for inviting Ayesha. “Not everyone’s going to like you — be it your day-to-day life, people in school, college or university. Either you have proper friends or people who simply don’t like you. It’s [a] part of life and you cannot make everyone happy. I saw this tweet by Shafaat when I called that famous TikToker Ayesha on my show and everyone came for me for not [inviting] those who have gotten a medal for something or someone with a list of achievements,” she said.
Yasir said she does a lot of shows where she invites different types of people but they “never go viral” nor do they get her any ratings. “I’ve invited eight to 10 people at a time on my show who do such unique things that leave you amazed. Look at the ‘pawri ho rahi hai’ girl and Zara who got a distinction. I called both of them together on my show. Now tell me who do you know better of the two? Where did Zara go? It’s not my fault, it’s the people who are at fault.”
The Nadaaniyaan actor explained that if TV shows these days are based on “saas-bahu [mother-in-law daughter-in-law] issues” and it brings ratings, then the channel shows exactly what people want to see. “If I bring well-educated people on my show, then you must watch it. Why don’t you? You saw that one show that I did on request of multiple people because nowadays, people attach my photo with someone I don’t even know. It’s the people who want it to happen and then they complain also,” Yasir reasoned.
She told Choudary that she has been hosting the show for about 14 years now and people who sleep through her morning show criticise her later, based on a viral clip. “I have to mix it up so people like it. There are a lot of people for whom wedding festivities are the only source of entertainment and those who are occupied by other things don’t watch my show. They have to go to parties at night and have trouble waking up in the morning. They may watch the rerun but I want live ratings.”
Talking about why she thinks her show has been popular for almost a decade and a half, the 49-year-old actor-host said, “I am the kind of woman the woman behind the screen can resonate with me because what I have faced practically is what she has faced. I am, too, a mother, a wife and a daughter-in-law too — that is the kind of show I host. Have you ever seen me a do a night show in [tight] dresses with my leg out? That’s because I cannot do it. What I can do, you can clearly see.”
If Yasir, as a TV show host, is inviting someone who became famous overnight, it’s because people clearly enjoyed that person’s content. The host, like any other, will obviously take into consideration what people would be interested in seeing. Why’s she getting hate for that?
It is the general public that re-shares videos on social media in order for them to go viral. Be responsible. If you dislike a video or find it unworthy, then don’t circulate it. Hating Yasir for inviting someone you made famous sounds like salty behaviour to us.
