People’s Choice Group of the Year? BTS. Concert Tour of the Year? BTS. Collaboration of the Year? You guessed it — BTS!
K-pop boyband BTS has managed to snag three People’s Choice Awards this year, reigning over three whole categories. They won The Group of 2022, The Concert Tour of 2022, and The Collaboration of 2022 and we can’t say that we’re surprised.
The award ceremony was held in California on Tuesday. The group of seven won Group of 2022 for the third consecutive year, their fourth win in total (they won the same category in 2018). They defeated strong contenders such as all-girl K-pop group BLACKPINK and other popular bands such as Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, OneRepublic and Panic! At The Disco.
Next, the boys’ Permission To Dance tour was declared Concert Tour of 2022. This makes all the sense as their concerts from Seoul to Los Angeles and Las Vegas amassed a total of 458,144 attendees over 11 concerts, according to Soompi. They were chosen over prominent pop artists such as Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Harry Styles — who won Male Artist of 2022 — and Lady Gaga.
If their group influence weren’t enough, they’ve proved that even as individuals, the boys have their unique charm. Jungkook’s song with Charlie Puth ‘Left and Right’ has been honoured with the Collaboration Song of 2022 award. The hit single also ranked high on Billboard’s Global 200 chart, coming in at 106, and the Digital Song Sales chart, ranking at No. 30.
Besides BTS, Taylor Swift is one artist who also bagged multiple awards such as Female Artist of the Year, The Album of 2022 (Midnights) and The Music Video of 2022 (‘Anti-Hero’).
Other artists included in the list of winners are Lizzo, Carrie Underwood, Becky G and Latto.
