With his new gameshow, actor and RJ Khalid Malik has abandoned the conventions of hosting on set and decided to let the set be wherever he is. Or wherever his car is. Taxi Cash is a mashup of two exciting shows, James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke and Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati.

“The basic concept is that passengers book a ride, I pick them up and from point A to point B [and] it’s me asking them a series of questions,” he told Images. “It is mainly general knowledge questions — there are some rounds and the questions get harder with each round. That’s the premise of the show.”

Commenting on the selection in Pakistani gameshows, Malik said currently it is through “networking”. Teams have coordinators who proceed with selection of contestants. “We want to expand that from people watching the show to also now participating,” he said.

The show airs on BOL Network every Monday and Tuesday at 9pm. It released on October 3 and has three episodes out currently. “Welcome to *Taxi Cash,”* yells Malik as he asks questions ranging from the chemical formula of carbon dioxide, the inventor of computers, the largest exporter of tea in the world and the gas used in the preparation of soft drinks. All allowing the guests to win thousands of rupees.

The clips also mentioned strikes — apparently the contestants are allowed three strikes before they are asked to leave the taxi. To counter that, there is also mention of a lifeline option that may allow them to seek help outside the cab.

The teasers also showed us how the difficulty level for rounds may get amped up as there is a round with timed questions, adding pressure on the contestants.

Malik is not the first actor to make the transition from acting to gameshow hosting — several others have walked the same path. Fahad Mustafa’s Jeeto Pakistan, Sheheryar Munawer’s Khel Kay Jeet, and Faisal Qureshi’s Khush Raho Pakistan are some examples. One thing is for sure though — hosting a gameshow in a car is a first in Pakistan.
