Sinf-e-Aahan stirred up some inter-school drama between NUST and GIKI on Twitter

A 10-second scene from the drama has caused Pakistani Twitter to go wild and school rivalries to flare up.

The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) versus Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) feud is an age-old one and a clip from recently released drama Sinf-e-Aahan is reigniting passions on Twitter as people take virtual swings at each other. GIKI students are rejoicing whilst NUST-ians fire back in defence — the battle between the country's leading engineering colleges persists.

Sinf-e-Aahan, produced by Humayun Saeed in collaboration with ISPR, released its first episode on Saturday and while it was well received, some scenes stood out — one in particular where Sajal Aly’s character meets a family for a prospective rishta. The man's mother asked her where she studied and upon hearing “NUST”, she asked why not a foreign university or — wait for it — GIKI.

This was enough to offend the sensibilities of former and current students of NUST and have GIKI alumni and students cheering.

The scene was posted by a Twitter user watching the video with other GIKI students or alumni and it literally ended in cheers.

While the validation was celebrated by GIKI students, as they claimed the ISPR has finally ended the feud, the debate continued.

Some called GIKI the ultimate rishta aunty.

While others went as far as saying GIKI sponsored the drama for promotional purposes, this user tackled it head on.

The producers’ graduation details were also researched to catch any signs of bias.

Some moms used this drama clip to validate their children's choices.

Calling GIKI and NUST equals, this NUST-ian gave GIKI an edge only because his brother is married while he’s still single.

This user thought the real rivalry was between NUST and LUMS rather than GIKI.

There was also a stream of NUST-ians sharing how their family and friends at the rival school were feeling very superior after this.

There’s always that one guy that pulls out the receipts and does a fact check.

Some NUST-ians called the aunty “toxic” and dismissed her comments.

One user brought another scene to light that “deserves more attention”.

Most Twitter users had their popcorn out, watching the drama unfold.

There were also some who were only now discovering GIKI.

Both colleges are amongst the top engineering schools in the country and their rivalry has added spice to our Twitter feeds. Sinf-e-Aahan caused such a huge spark-up after a single episode, we can't wait to see what happens as the drama unfolds.

Both institutions are great but remember, there is only one West Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology, Grand Trunk (G.T.) road, Mughalpura, Lahore - Islamic Republic of Pakistan, as the top and the oldest Engineering University in the country including the former East Pakistan.

I know a student of GIKI who was under performing and was advised by the GIKI administration to better get transferred to NUST, if failed to improve performance results in the next semester.

If housing societies, wedding halls, sport clubs and holiday resorts are not considered responsibilities of ARMY, Why is this propaganda in the name of entertainment which certainly is going to make millions; HALAL.

NUST people are good , they are just not sure of themselves and to those saying it’s not even a comparison with Giki, look yourself in the mirror and once you’re sure it’s yourself , wash your face Thoroughly

Two substandard institutions during it out! Ask them where they stand in the world or even Asian rankings.

Both institutes never produce good engineers because Pakistan is not a big manufacturing or design country our country 60% engineers left the profession of engineering and apply CSS or try to go abroad. Rest 40 % do MBA and start carrier as banker or finance managers or teaching but not engineering. From previous more than 70 years we are under discussion what our direction because every govt direction change Last quality of engineering education badly deteriorated by private university’s who don’t have proper labs and teaching staff. They want just money rest a degree is a piece of paper whose value is zero after so much spending and hard work.
