Saris ruled the red carpet at this year's PISA Awards

Iqra Aziz, Sonya Hussyn and Hania Aamir brought their sari A-game and we loved their looks.
Updated 06 Nov, 2021

Celebrity fashion amongst women stars at the PISA Awards Friday night was all about strutting gorgeous statement saris down the red carpet, a refreshing change from the usual line-up of ill-fitted gowns that we're becoming accustomed to seeing at Pakistani award shows.

The second annual Pakistan International Screen Awards (PISA) took place in Dubai on November 5, attended by many of Pakistan's A-List actors, models and designers who brought their best fashion game (or at least tried to).

We saw a whole lot of saris this time around, worn by popular celebrities such as Iqra Aziz, Hania Aamir and Sonya Hussyn. Nailing the sari look seems to be all about wearing solid colours, whether one opts for a neutral earthy colour (like Aamir did) or a brighter shade (Aziz's bright green sari for instance).

Actor Sana Javed went with a deep emerald sari by Umar Sayeed Couture, with open hair and minimal accessories. While Javed looked elegant overall, we feel her look was nothing innovative. An emerald green sari has been done quite a few times this fashion season and most noticeably by Naimal Khawar who wore a gorgeous emerald green sari designed by Mohsin Naveed Ranjha to Usman Mukhtar's day-time wedding.

Hussyn wore a silk sari in a gorgeous shade of rust-orange that helped the actor bring something unique to the red carpet sari game. She matched the outfit well with open hair and minimal jewellery.

Designer Sania Maskatiya's outfit brought a modern twist to the traditional sari with a sari pant look. She opted for pattern unlike the others, and her sari included fitted pants underneath the drape.

We're glad to see celebrities rocking elegant traditional wear at an award show red carpet for a change. Take note everyone, saris seem to be ruling the red carpet these days and we love it.

@Atif The sari should not be promoted since it is the dress of India, and other countries in South Asia like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka too. It is not native Pakistani dress. If we spend our time copying other cultures and not celebrating our own culture what is left of us ?
