Hania Aamir wants you to focus on the big picture, not Instagram filters

'Let's not kill the whole conversation and pit women against women because you don't understand my point of view,' she said.

After facing backlash for telling people to own their skin while using a beauty filter herself, Hania Aamir clarified her stance on colourism, saying people totally missed the point.

In a series of videos posted on her Instagram Stories, the Ishqiya star explained what she meant when she asked people to own their skin tones, as they were quick to point out the filter she used which plumped up her lips, added a rosy tint to her cheeks, elevated her cheekbones and added a row of false lashes — defeating the purpose of everything she said.

"I was going through my Instagram and I came across some stories where people were offended I was giving a 'sermon' on colour shaming. It says she does all that while wearing a beauty filter. That is not the point," Aamir began.

"I was even wearing makeup that day. It's about being comfortable with who you are, doing things because you want to to them, not because of the beauty standards that are set. Does that make sense? It is different," she added. "If I want to use a beauty filter because I want to, it's fine. If I want to use a beauty filter because of the pressure of society that 'oh you have to look this way for Instagram', then it is wrong."

She also then asked people to look at the bigger picture.

"Let's not kill the whole conversation and pit women against women because you don't understand my point of view. There's something good going on here so please expand your brain and think positively — think about how you can take this conversation forward rather than shooting somebody down because you don't get their point of view," she said.

"Let's not kill the whole conversation and pit women against women because you don't understand my point of view." If that isn't arrogance, I don't know what is.

She clearly knows she would've never had even a hundred followers without the makeup and filters. Now that she's made millions with the makeup and filters on, she shows fake guts by condemning them. Not cool.

She is trying to play two cards in an attempt to get out of this sticky situation. First that she is smart and others don't get her point of view and second is the women card. As per her explanation she has given everyone using filters for the wrong reasons to cover it up carefully. Very sneaky indeed. So filter usage is okay if done for the right reasons but who will know if the person using them is telling us the right reasons from the heart or merely using lies to cover up? She could've easily admitted that the filters were on accidentally and possibly minimized the impact of her statement. But this mention should've been during the first post not after the fact when it all appears like a cover up. If she thinks she can fool everyone she is mistaken.

Hania sometimes you just got to let one go then keep holding on to make a bigger fool of yourself.

What she is trying to say is that be who you are and do what you want. In other words don’t try to do things to impress someone or follow someone or do things someone wants you to do or do things you are not comfortable doing. The reason being when you are not yourself then you look like a fool or when you follow people blindly then you are always taken for a ride. For example, if you pray to impress Mullahs or your parents etc then do you think those prayers are worth anything? Similarly, you grow a beard so you come across religious though you hate beard, so basically you are punishing yourself etc etc. I hope people get it. So believe in yourself and be proud to be who you are and don’t worry about the complainers because they will complain no matter what.

How do you separate society making you want to do something vs. you as an individual wanting to do something? Couldn't you as an individual think you have an "individual" opinion but it's actually the result of subconscious molding by society? Where do you draw the line?

Makeup makes the living of actors by covering their blemishes and adding untold loads of assets.

Hania's attitude shows why people in our culture are reluctant to admit their mistakes and tender an apology with an open heart.
