It's official: Sajal Ahad Mir, previously Sajal Aly, is part of the star-studded cast of Jemima Goldsmith's romantic comedy film, What’s Love Got To Do With It.

Written and produced by Jemima, movie is being currently being in the United Kingdom.

Senior journalist and entertainment reporter at BBC, Haroon Rashid, confirmed the news through direct sources.

"Confirmed: Sajal Ali has joined the cast of What’s Love Got To Do With It, directed by Shekhar Kapur and produced and written by Jemima Khan," he announced.

"The romcom stars Emma Thompson, Lily James & Shazad Latif and is currently being shot in London. Confirmed by Sajal’s agent Hamid Hussain."

A retweet by Jemima indicates that Bollywood veteran actor Shabana Azmi is also part of the project.

The confirmation comes after much speculation around the topic as eager fans wanted more information on whether the Mom actor would be part of the big project.

"It’s rumoured that Sajal Ali is currently in London shooting for Jemima Goldsmith’s production, What’s Love Got To Do With It, directed by Shekhar Kapur. The film also stars Emma Thompson, Lily James and Shazad Latif. Sajal’s rep has been contacted for confirmation. Huge if true!" Rashid had earlier posted.

The film will mark Shekhar Kapur's, popularly known for Mr India and Dil Se, directorial return since his 2007 Oscar-winning production Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

The movie is set between London and South Asia, exploring cross-cultural conflicts of love and marriage.

“It’s a story of identities,” Kapur had told Variety in November. “It’s about cultural clashes and it’s a comedy, but it’s about hiding behind an identity and how identities can become tribal, and how tribalism can lead to clashes and fundamentalism. It’s a romcom, but based on this fundamental idea of people adopting identities out of fear of marginalisation.”

With an extensive repertoire of work under her belt and masses of fans all over the world cheering her on, we're not really surprised that Sajal secured this high-profile gig. Looking forward to the all-star cast!

The Goldschmidt family is a family of German Jewish descent, originally from Frankfurt am Main, known for their success in banking. Most Goldschmidt members were forced to leave Frankfurt-Germany after the 1614 Fettmilch uprising. The English branch of the family Anglicised their name to Goldsmith.
